My Dog Passed Away This Morning

Max would have been ten in July. He had the meanest sounding bark, but his tail would be wagging the whole time. Just a very sad day for the whole family.

We lost our beloved Faust almost two years ago, and it still hurts to think about it. Amazing how these guys worm their way under our skin, and into our hearts - like nothing else.

Pets that old just become one of the family and in fact are often older than the kids they play with. It's hard to say goodbye and even after they have lived a long and full life it never seems long enough.

I've gone through hard times helping my pets die a dignified death. At least with adults you can reason it out. The worst thing in life would be going through it with a small child. Before anyone flames, I'm only talking about those situations where you are the decision maker.

We had a shepherd mix when I was a kid; the smartest and most loyal dog ever. :hug: to you and your family.

Was it expected? Was he ill, or was this a surprise? I hate it that the bigger dogs have shorter life spans.

I still grieve for my beloved big girl who was part Rottie part German shepherd named Shane. Lost her 14 months ago.

It's damn hard. Your Max was such a beauty. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope he visits you often in your dreams. :cry:

It hurts worse than most people can imagine

We are here for you if you want to write more. I know it's not easy, but if you feel like sharing more details please do.

Can I please also tell you about a place that has helped me a lot in the past when I have lost two dogs?

It is a site called Rainbow Bridge. Google Rainbow Bridge if you feel like it. It helped me a ton. I can also rec some books. And some tapes.

German Shepherds are my first love. Both sets of my grandparents had German Shepherds, and my very first dog was a Shep as well. Their loyalty, energy and brilliance makes them impossible to ignore - but I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here.

66. I Want To Thank Each Of You For The Kind Words
My younger boy is 13 and he can't remember a time before Max. We still have our Mitzee, who is nearly four, and she could tell how upset we all were yesterday and she seemed as melancholy as the rest of us, but today she just can't seem to figure out why Max isn't around.

We have decided to get another Shepherd puppy in a few weeks. When we do I'll post some pics.


Thanks again to everyone. The sharing of good vibes is one of the reasons I love this place.
