you know... cottage cheese sucks
I probably don't get enough dairy or protein in my diet, and since cottage cheese is available to me on the salad bar every day, I almost always put a spoonful into my salad... but I cover it in freshly ground pepper.

People really enjoy this stuff? :wtf:

3. this probably isn't easy to do at the salad bar, but toast a
piece of wheat toast (really toasty, not anemic-slightly-tan toast), put a little butter on it, some cottage cheese and pepper.

Really, really good that way!

Or, buy or make Belgian waffles, put cottage cheese on top, some syrup (real syrup, not the high fructose corn syrup crap they sell now in grocery stores) and you've got a good breakfast with some protein and dairy tossed in.

4. A recipe once called for cottage cheese instead of cream cheese.
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 12:02 PM by Renew Deal
My wife found an interesting recipe in a Greek cookbook. It was some sort of cake. One of the ingredients was cottage cheese. That's weird, but my wife went with it. She made the cake. It came out like soggy crap. We were disappointed with the recipe. My dad (who is Greek) asked what it was. He said that it should have said "cream cheese." Big difference.

Personally I find cottage cheese gross.

6. That's like the old lasagne recipe
here in the Midwest that used cottage cheese instead of ricotta cheese. :puke:

11. Sorry.
Maybe you do a better job, but the stuff I remember at the neighborhood block parties was runny crap.

14. No need to apologize! I promise my lasagna is not runny crap!
It is one of my specialties. It may even be better than my spaghetti which says a lot because I make some DAMN good sketti if I do say so myself. :)

18. If you use it in lasagna, it absolutely HAS to be dry-curd cottage cheese,
not the regular, really wet stuff. Dry-curd cottage cheese is a pretty good substitute for ricotta. Hell, I've even used mascarpone as a substitute for ricotta. :hi:

22. That makes sense

This was back in the 70s when no one even heard of ricotta. My mom always omitted that ingredient, so we had just layers of meat, sauce, and mozzarella.

Edited to add: :hi:

I don't like it at all, personally. But then, she doesn't like my French Onion dip, either.

23. I like it
Plain.

Being Texas and all, I have eaten it with salsa mixed in. It's not bad but I prefer it plain.

My dad used used it as filling for his homemade blintzes. Those were delish!
