Tech question: Hellllp!
My PC is set for auto updates - runs IE and Vista. The other day I received pop-ups to update Adobe, and then one for Java.

Now I can't play anything in you tube at all. First it said Javascript might be disabled or I didn't have the latest version of Adobe.

I followed direction to got to Internet Options and turned scripting back on. Still says I don't have the latest version of Adobe, but when I run their link to that it says download was successful.

I can't even figure out how to roll back the updates now, to when it was working fine. And the Adobe site wants to charge for the newest version.

What next? Any tips or hints?

:banghead:

1. Oh man o man o man o man..
I so feel for you, I remember when I depended upon windows machines.

Have you tried system restore?

That used to work for me but who knows.

I wish I could buy you a mac.

2. I did do a restore on a reboot, but it didn't fix my youtube problem.
At least Political Videos still work, or I'd DIE!!

4. Follow these steps
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=57669

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

If you're receiving this error message when trying to play a video, it means that you either have JavaScript turned off in your browser, or you need to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash player.

Select Tools > Internet Options.
Click on the Security tab.
Click the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to the Scripting section.
Select Enable for Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.
Click OK.
Select YES if a box appears to confirm.
Click OK. Close window.
Reload page.

Step 1: Is Javascript enabled on your browser? Yes

Try completely uninstalling the Flash Player, and then reinstalling the most recent version. For instructions about how to "completely" uninstall a Flash Player, read this Adobe Help http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157">article. If you don't have a Flash player installed or you have just uninstalled the Flash player, download and install the latest Adobe Flash Player, which is available at the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.
Clear your browser cache and cookies on your computer.
For Windows Vista Users: If the flash uninstall reinstall does not work this maybe due to a Microsoft Windows Vista permissions issue. Please use the Windows button at the bottom left then the search function:

Go to: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
Right-click on the following file: FlashUtil9b.exe or FlashUtil9e.exe
Select "Run as Administrator" and install the update.
Restart your computer.

Right-click on the following file: FlashUtil9b.exe or FlashUtil9e.exe
Select "Run as Administrator" and install the update.
Restart your computer.

6. Classic Vista glitch from my understanding
The same thing happened to my husband's PC. I tried a bunch of different solutions I found online but nothing worked - I eventually sent it out to get a cleaning and the tech guy took care of it, I don't know how.

Good luck. :hi:

8. I'm going to do that, but I'm catching up on Political Videos first in case it fucks up worse.
I just hate Vista. I never had so many problems with XP.

And all the downloads for Adobe want a pay for the newest version. Argh! The free version was working fine before I was notified to download the new version.

Welcome to DU!

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

I am not "new", just posting from work- we are having layoffs and a guy who departed friday gave me his password so I could play around on the internet this weekend/until they cut his access. What are they gonna do? Fire me? (I leave on May 1st)

I post as wartrace, used to post as wcross.
