:wtf:

I'm already put off by the reboot movie, coming May 08. Despite that one, they're already making more?! They are THAT sure?!!

Wow. Trek was originally due after Xmas 2008, but was moved up to the spring schedule (which isn't the summer blockbuster season...)

That's not to say it will fail, of course... then again, most popular things from today are glossy, emotional wanking, with young mannequin-looking actors of variable ranges of actual acting talent, with the most incoherent plots that don't even follow the logic they create for themselves. Sloppy writing.

1. You sound skeptical
It's Star Trek. I think it's a safe bet the fans will swallow whatever they're spoonfed.

I think it's a safe bet you'll go to see it too.

2. I'm a big trekkie and I say nope.
Have no interest in seeing it. And I think the distaste of many trekkies for "Enterprise" proves thats no longer the case.

6. Ah, THAT's what a reboot is.
Didn't you like the new Battlestar? (And don't tell me what happens in the last 1/2 season!)

13. I'm afraid that the committee is going to have to review your nerd credentials.
In the meantime, we are going to need your nerd badge, your still suit and your light saber.

4. I'll be waiting for the reviews...
the trailer was plenty for me... it just doesn't look good.

I mean, the visuals look good, but the ship interior looking like a big ass ipod and the crew of the ship looking like stunt doubles for the Muppet Babies(tm), and dumb lines like "space is a dirty place"... and space battles with a thousand ships because big booms means more to spoonfed audiences than actual suspense...

I'll watch Trek II and III that day.

Hell, I'll even buy "Nemesis" and watch that instead.

8. Isn't Weapon-X due out on May 1st?
Sounds like they're pushing "the summer blockbuster season" forward a few weeks.

9. If only they would reboot it.
This new movie might make sense then. But they keep saying its NOT a reboot and will take place in star trek history. Looks like they are changing a bunch of shit then.

15. Well, I'm hoping it revives Trek and paves the way for a revival/continuation of TNG/DS9/etc
I HIGHLY doubt that will happen, mind you, but I'd be FAR more interested in a film/series set post-Nemesis than I am in a redo of the Kirk/Spock years. It doesn't even have to center on characters from the other series (although frequent cameos at least would be nice), but as a Trek fan, I'd much rather see what happens next than a retread of what has already been done. As long as they jettisoned the braindead Berman/Braga team from any future projects, they'd stand as good a chance of being decent sci-fi as this reboot does.

Oh, I'll still go see it when it comes out, because decent sci-fi in the theaters is hard to find these days. I'm also an eternal optimist. But this is not where I'd prefer the Trek franchise to go. Oh well, they never ask me for my opinion.
