Dish Network Sucks BIGTIME.
if you were thinking about switching to them, DON'T!!!

do yourself a HUGE favour, and go with DirectTV instead

Charlie ergen, the CEO of Dish, is a very customer unfriendly CEO, and his company deserves to lose as many subscribers as possible.
I'd rather send my subscription money too rupert murdoch than charlie the ass.

1. Yeah, they're cancelling a whole shitload of stations
I see the little messages floating across the bottom of the screen sometimes saying that Dish Network is cancelling this and other stations. Something tells me that fees will stay nice and high, though.

13. If you would rather send Rupert money
then you are not very smart and obviously not seeing the big picture in this dispute. Viacom are the global corporatist bullies in this deal and Charlie Ergen is the only guy looking out for you.

Viacom doesn't care and the FCC doesn't care either.

You need to choose sides with a little more insight and a little less selfishness.

23. All capitalists are greedy
and that is the reason we should have a government that regulates their greed, not one that is run by the same greedy tenets.

You need to choose which capitalist to back in this fight and backing Viacom is supporting the Evil Empire.

Echostar is the group of capitalists getting screwed here and their customers are the ultimate screwees.

But don't expect to get any help from the governmental agency that should be protecting the people, they only protect their coporate overlords.

If Echostar gets crushed in this that will leave only Direct TV who are complete assholes.

At least support the American company in this.

7. It's not all Dish Network
I am about to Join Dish...just waiting for all the trouble to die down with VIacom.

I have read a lot about this issue, and it's like this:

Dish Network doesn't want all of the channels that Viacom is bundling together and insisting be included in the Dish Network Basic Package.

DN would rather have some in Basic, some at higher levels, but Viacom refuses.

Since DN has the lowest prices for programming, and since they are fighting to keep their and their customers' costs low, I think they are in the right.

I personally can't wait until I can drop all the Sports crap and save 1/4 of my cable bill each month, but that's still years away....

12. I hear you on the sports channels
I would like to just pick the ones I want.. I wish they would stop the bundling completely..

If a channel is not "good enough" to be chosen , then it needs to be cheaper..

I also do not "need" the korean, spanish, chinese channels either..

Boy do I wish the consolodation had never been allowed..

I can still remember when Discovery, TLC, A&E were independent.. The content has suffered since now they are mostly "dumping grounds" for their "parent" corporation..

I really miss Dave Letterman :( and Jon Stewart too..

If Comedy channel had not allowed itself to be gobbled up by Viacom, they would still be available..

of FOX Sports net...you can't do that with DISH.

i've already run the numbers- by opting out of the sports package, I'll get more channels from Directtv for less money than i currently pay dish.
plus- i can sell my dish equipment and smart cards for a couple hundred bucks on ebay.

i guess i ought to thank charlie for waking me up with his stupid decision.

28. Not Sure I Agree About the Programming Price
I tried working it out for a switch to Dish a few weeks ago, I'd be paying at least $10 more to have the channels I get on DirecTV + HBO. Dish would include Encore for the price, but I don't see Encore as a necessity like I do HBO. Plus, Dish doesn't get TrioTV and NWI.

Father-in-law met him, liked him. If he's leveraging the outrage of his customers to put pressure on Viacom to not raise their rates to him, I would think that's ultimately in the customer's best interest.

...Viacom is hiding out. They don't publish any way of contacting them electronically. I just emailed CBS since I could not find any way of contacting Viacom directly.

As a business person, I prefer email since I have a paper trail and something I can send to people or print and carry into a meeting. Much harder to do with a voicemail.

10. Viacom are the ASSHOLES.
You need to learn about the issue before making pronouncements. The problem is Viacom, the third largest media company in the country trying to force Echostar to carry additional channels and pay more money per subscriber to continue to carry Viacom's programming.

Additionally, the problem is the willful lack of oversight by the FCC. They claim no jurisdiction over this dispute even though both companies are using The People's airwaves and bandwidth to make billions in the case of Viacom, and millions in the case of Echostar.

The fact that Viacom and their global corporatist media cronies own a large piece of this misadministration is the biggest problem.

Blaming a small fry like Echostar for trying to stand up to a megalamaniacle bully like Viacom is short sighted and selfishly ignorant. Call Sumner Redstone and bitch at him, he's the ASSHOLE, not Charlie Ergen.

why is he only crediting people $1.00/month for the missing channels, when Dish pays more in the range of $5-6 per customer to Viacom???

and then he complains about the GREED of the people at viacom...

if he doesn't want to appear a total hypocrite- he should give customers the full monthly credit.

you still won't be satisfied and his company will go out of business leaving only Direct TV.

You are only self interested here and have no concept of the larger issues in play that have an important impact on how business is done in the future.

You are backing the corporate globalists who only want to screw you until you are their slave, ultimately.

We have always had great service & the issue with no local channels is because of local cables putting the heat on NBC, CBS, ABC & FOX not to allow them. Dish suggest we write the local stations, which we did. There response was we could get them with cable. Bushit.
So we get NBC out of Chicago and no others.

DISH doesn't allow you to opt out of FOX News channel, or FOX sports net, so part of your money still goes to rupert...and since viacom already charges Dish more than $1 per subscriber per month, charlie just gave you a big rate increase, since he's only giving back $1 to the customers, and pocketing the rest.
