Poll question: Favorite Charlie Chaplin Film?
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 05:52 PM by ALago1
This guy was an amazing talent, and conveyed so much more without the use of words than most actors can do today. He was also quite the liberal!

My choice is Modern Times. Great social commentary on the dehumanizing effects of machinery circa the post industrial revolution era.

Let me know what you think, and share some comments on Chaplin as well!

1. Modern Times, The Great Dictator, and City Lights, in that order.

2. Every time I see the Kid I loose it.
Chaplin IMO, is one of the best directors ever.Put his comedy aside. He wrote, directed, even wrote the music for his films. He even edited them.If Chaplin had his way,he's be selling popcorn in the moive houses as well.

I also think one of the most tragic films I had ever seen was Chaplin's "A Woman of Paris".The film was unlike any Chaplin film I had seen.Even to this day no other film hits me as hard as A Woman of Paris.

get the new chaplin collection boxed set while you're at it. it's got the circus, city lights, monsieur ver doux, a king in new york (underrated anti-mccarthyism gem), the kid, and more

my vote goes to Modern Times
Great social commentary. He forsaw the invention of closed-circuit tvs in the workplace by a few decades. The scene where he accidentally starts a communist march is priceless. and it co-stars Paulette Goddard, my favorite Chaplin leading lady.

followed by the great dictator, city lights, the circus, and monsieur verdoux
