I would say the Skins, but they always disappoint.

The Cowboys are out. :P

2. Yeah - you want to stay away from the division rivals.
I actually have an "away" favorite - the 49ers. I've been a fan since Montana's rookie year. :)

3. Now you're talking
the 49ers....the greatest franchise in NFL history

Joe Montana with a Fu Manchu mustache from his rookie year, 1979, during training camp.

8. Good point
It has always been hard having the Redskins as a second team, since they are a rival.

14. Skins. More recent SB victories than SF
Plus they have been to the playoffs two of the last four years..that's better than the Niners as well. I think the phrase "they always disappoint"is for Dallas

11. Good question. I think Fox Sports carried them a year ago or so.
The games are kind of fun to watch. Much more open. Season starts in July I think.
There is also the arena league. See if you can pick out the next rags-to-riches story.
Or the NFL Europe group. Ithink ESPN carries the Arena and NFL Europe games.

5. How about the Denver Donkeys?
There's been enough turmoil off-season to make them REALLY interesting this year.

7. You should go with an AFC team
To preserve balance.

I nominate the Cleveland Browns.

9. Cleveland has a similar underdog feel
Both the Eagles or Browns winning a Super Bowl would be their first one.

Rock solid. Nothing garish or splashy.

22. God, I wish
Lifelong Browns fan here, and I'm getting that panicky feeling that there turning into a team like the Detroit Lions and that they will NEVER get their act together again.

15. If you leave us, you can't come back.
Even considering the Redskins makes me question if you were ever with us in the first place.

17. I used to live in Maryland, so I had a connection to the Skins..
until I was 14. Then I became an Eagles fan after I moved.

But I'm looking for a fallback for when the Eagles anger me.

20. Dunno. If you're an Eagles fan, it might be hard finding a team that wants you.
Certainly the Cowboys are out. You need a team whose owners hate their fans and refuse to hire enough good players to be successful, who likes to boo their best player and constantly call for him to be cut, who throws stuff at beloved iconic cultural figures... I'm coming up zeroes. Maybe Cleveland?

23. You don't want the Skins. Trust me.
There is, however, an NFL team between DC and Philly that is a terrific team to root for.

24. Yeah a team just like the Cowboys...
Seriously, they have always struck me as classless trash talkers..Led by one stomping arrogant Ray-Ray. Ugh. They really do remind me of the Cowboys.

25. They are Maryland's team!
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 12:09 PM by Tommy_Carcetti
So long as you use a Maryland address and not Traffic Circle Hell's, then you are legally obligated to root for your own state's football team (and no, the Redslurs attempt to claim stake in Raljon doesn't count so long as they identify themselves with Washington).

Says the patch:
