Empowered Man Murders Controlling Wife In Lifetime For Men Original Movie
The new made-for-television movie A Just Killing—the inspiring true story of a man who finds his own inner strength by murdering his needy, overbearing wife—premiered on Lifetime for Men this past Saturday, earning the network its highest ever ratings.

The highly anticipated movie event is another boon for the cable channel, which specializes in uplifting programming geared toward 30- to 60-year-old men. The film chronicles the painful ordeal of Gary Mulkeen, a fun-loving mechanic who meets a seemingly perfect woman, but must soon fight for his very life after she reveals herself to be a clingy, manipulative shrew.

"It's about one man's perseverance against impossible odds," said director Tom Dunlop, whose previous credits include the Lifetime for Men original films Suffocated Independence and Not With My Hard-Earned Money You Won't. "Hopefully Gary's struggle will inspire other men out there to empower themselves and stand up to frigid women who attempt to micromanage every last minute of their lives."

Early word from viewers has been overwhelmingly positive. Many particularly praised the chilling scene in which Mulkeen, played by actor Steven Weber, is viciously browbeaten by his wife into admitting he has been having an affair.

"I found Gary Mulkeen's harrowing true-life experience to be incredibly moving," viewer Richard Downey said. "Here's a guy who journeyed deep into the heart of marital exasperation and came out the other side a stronger, newly single person. Finally, a movie that tells his side of the story."

13. Why would you tell someone to post total flamebait like that
in a forum where you know it will cause offense, for the very purpose of causing offense?

That really shows your character.

6. Interesting satire.
Who is it aimed at? Feminists? Men? Lifetime? The legal system?

Nifty bit of writing there.

22. No, the poor put upon working man who has a wife and crazy sister-in-law...
who are eating him out of house and home, and all the while putting him down.
I used to amuse a professor with my dream of starting a Masculinist Studies department at the university.
The first assignment would be a masculinist reading of "A Streetcar Named Desire" where Stanley is the victim of misandry.
Of course, it is absurd, but it is no less absurd than the the "academic discipline" that I would be mocking.

12. This is one of the minor differences between the male and the female of our species
No man would voluntarily watch a television show, or a movie, about a man who "takes back his life" after months or years of abuse. Women have a whole channel for this.

23. First Blood doesn't count
John Rambo started kicking ass just as soon as he possibly could. The women in Lifetime movies stay around for years and years...

This is no shit: there used to be a sergeant major in Special Forces by the name of William Rambo. He served as sergeant major of the special forces school, and also served as sergeant major of Special Forces Command. Nice guy. Really. You'd like him.

I'm sure your Rambo friend is a great guy, you aren't in the special of special forces if you're a psychotic. In fact I'd like to buy you and him both a drink at some point.

However. First Blood was about Rambo being pushed to the edge. He never found a home, he never fit in, and finally someone with too much power pushed him over the edge, and he resorted to his previous life where he had control. The story is the same, only "First Blood" involved a Green Beret, and the story of him taking back control involved destroying a small town, and an entire National Guard unit, and about 200 policemen. It's the same story, with different parameters. :D

Instead of his marriage and household pushing him over the edge, it was the country itself. The authoritarian complex of the Army led to all of his friend dying, whereas in the Lifetime Television version a woman's adopted family essentially trained her to take the next step and led her to snap. In Rambo's case, that next step was living in the woods until he had to blow up his abuser and the rest of the town with him. In the Lifetime Television version, the only person who is killed or sent to prison is the abuser.

It's a matter of scale, but it's the same story.

25. Ha! Well done.
Every Chuck Norris/Steve Segal/Vin Diesel movie is ultimately about fantasizing that Joe Average can be an ass kicking psycho, too. At least Bruce Willis is making fun of himself in about half his movies.
