4. Sometimes it feels like
the only thing worse than restless leg syndrome is the risk involved with taking anything for it-

7. "Uncontrollable gambling or sexual urges"

Oops, I just lost my house's mortgage in a Vegas gambling spree, and I woke up with ten naked hookers in a bed littered with rolled up dollar bills and syringes... but my legs aren't shaking, dammit!!

15. Sound a lot like a manic episode
And even though it is funny, it's scary as hell when you're in the middle of one, and nothing you do can make it stop. :scared:

6. I went through a summer when I thought I had that.
It was really annoying and kept me awake as well. Very unpleasant. Luckily it went away. How I don't really know.

I sympathize greatly and hope you feel better.

10. I feel like I am coming out of my skin tonight.
There is no reason for it that I know of either. I just feel like I need to run around the yard about 50 times, but have no energy to do that. Every time my arms or legs get still, it hurts. I only happens every once in a while. Is that what RLS is like?

On the bright side, I now have some idea what was causing that certain stomach pain. I hadn't chewed gum in years and bought some Trident. I love the gum, but I gotta stop all that noise. Mercy. It makes my stomach hurt.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

11. I have experienced both... but -
my RLS (and RAS) were due to medicine I was given - it finally dawned on me that the condition stopped and started if I did/didn't have this medication.

I stopped taking the medicine and the RLS is gone. I was really tormented by this -thought I had it for life. Is it possible you are taking any (even mild) medicine that may be contributing? I had no clue this could happen. Is it worth checking with your doctor, maybe?

Take care and good luck - it's an awful condition to have... I hope you find relief.

12. I had that for several years and took a drug called
Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 06:52 AM by Raven
Orphmenadrine. I had 100mg tablets but only needed half a tablet. Sometimes it seemed that I'd get RLS after having certain food...chocolate was one. Usually I would go to bed, start having the problem, take the pill and be fine in about 1/2 hour.

I don't like recommending medicine so you should check with your Doc to see if this would help.

I don't have the problem anymore...it just went away.

17. Fascinating!
How does that work? There must be some reason it works. I'm mystified and super curious now.

18. I'm sorry you have it too. It is a hideous syndrome.
It runs in my family. My great grandmother on my mother's side had it, and both of my sisters have it.

I've noticed a few things, for what it's worth:

1. If I exercise in the evening, especially running, it is worse.
2. It improved dramatically when I stopped taking the anti depressant Celexa
3. It is much worse when I take a lot of caffeine, as I'm doing now
4. In an emergency, I will take a HUGE (probably dangerous) megadose of Folic Acid plus an Ibuprophen and one aspirin, and this will often help.

Good luck, and I really feel for you. It's really an awful thing to have.

20. Tylenol PM is the only thing that works for me.
I just hope I'm not destroying my liver.

22. See, that's weird. Those things always make it worse for me, but I'm glad you found
something that helps.

Anything that contains Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Benadryl) or its chemical cousins makes it worse for me. I wish I could take those products because I also have terrible insomnia.

I doubt that Tylenol in that small a dose will hurt your liver. Don't quote me on this, but I think you have to exceed something like 700-800 mg of Acetaminophen a day for some time to seriously damage your liver. People who take things like Vicodin in high doses run a higher risk.

21. Since we are talking.
This is what I have learned. Manage your electrolytes. Take some salt, potassium or calcium. If you can, take all three. Let your kidneys sort it out.
