$674.50 & counting.. Please send vibes for Evil Uncle Willie
Last week we noticed him becoming more affectionate..he even came to ME when I called him.. (longtimers know his "story" and how much he hates me)

I noticed he was thinner than usual, and when my husband came home, he admitted that he thought Willie was not as bulky as before, but thought it was because he was older (he's 7)..

We trundled him off to the vet, and the diagnosis is not great.. Somehow he has liver failure..

None of the other cats are sick, and they all ate the same food..

He had iv feedings at the vets, ultrasound, biopsy & lots of tests..he was there 4 days, and now is home again..

We have to syringe-feed him 3 times a day..so far so good.. we managed one feeding so far :)

The vet doesn't know why this happened, but thinks he might recover from it..

he's an evil...mean cat, but we do love him..

Hubby's off to the store to buy some chicken, in case we can entice him to eat some boiled chicken (cooked with no spices or onions).. we have to get a lot of calories into him, and it takes two of us to "papoose him" and feed him....and then there's the pills too ..:(..

With all the pets we have had, we never had one with a chronic illness before.. Our labs had cancer and went very quickly and our cat who died also had cancer.. We vowed never again after trying desperately to save her..(3 surgeries & even chemo)..

I don;t know where "the line" is with something like this.. It can;t be money..but on the other hand, how long do we try to "bring him back" if his quality of life is little more than hiding and then being "wrassled" while we syringe feed him:cry:

1. If the vet thinks he might get over it....
That suggests he might recover and the feeding you are doing can stop when he does. Cats can go into liver failure from not eating and when cats lose their appetite you have to prime the pump so to speak to get it back. Or he might have had some toxic exposure that you don't know about. If the problems with the liver are for either reason then he should recover, the cells will regenerate and his appetite will return. But be patient. It may not be as bad as you are thinking it is.
