7. The white seat was 'up' there, wasn't it? He and Mantle are the only ones to
clear the upper left deck at Tiger/Briggs Stadium in Detroit.

Unusual, because Howard was a line drive hitter. If you caught one, you might be pinned against the outfield wall.

13. Remember the one Reggie Jackson hit in the '68 All-Star Game?
Clanged off that power transformer on the roof in right-center. Longest ball I've ever seen.

I was trying to remember why we traded Howard after the '64 season. Baseball-reference.com reminded me:

December 4, 1964: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with a player to be named later, Ken McMullen, Phil Ortega and Pete Richert to the Washington Senators for a player to be named later, John Kennedy, Claude Osteen and $100,000. The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Dick Nen (December 15, 1964) to the Washington Senators to complete the trade.

Osteen became our third starter and a solid complement to Koufax and Drysdale, later Koufax and Sutton. And we were rich in outfielders in those days, like now.

That is a hilarious story. They were actually worried enough about a 'curse' to dig it up. Too funny.

20. That stadium's fucked for sure now
One would think they'd have had MLB jigger the schedule so the Yankees would have opened their $1.5 billion stadium facing someone they could have beaten, like Texas or Detroit. But noooo...they played Cleveland and now they're screwed for all time.
