1. It's awesome ...

I laughed so hard I pulled a foot muscle. I have no idea *how* I pulled a foot muscle, but I did, and it seemed appropriate.

I saw it with the original cast, minus Tim Curry who was taking the week off or something, in New York. Just brilliant.

2. Much better than I expected...

...and I'm a hardcore Python fan from decades back.

Richard Chamberlain is obviously getting on in years, as his hoofing was pretty primitive, but he sings magnificently, and his Arthur is good-natured and befuddled. Graham Chapman would be proud, I think. The music is great, the acting fine, and the special effects are wonderful. The way they pull off the dismemberment of a famously monomaniacal character is ludicrous, and hilarious.

While being mostly faithful to Holy Grail, coconuts and all, the musical neatly ties up the end with two romances that weren't in the movie, but work very well in context.
