Report: Lions, Stafford close to finalizing deal
The NFL’s Web site is reporting that the Detroit Lions are in negotiations to complete a contract with former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford.

2. I wouldn't go that far...

but they're looking at this the wrong way. A QB is useless if your line sucks...the most important player on offense is the Left (i.e. blind-side of a right-handed QB) Tackle because he protects your investment in backfield talent. Detroit's O-line...sucks.

Want to see what happens to a good QB when they get gun-shy from being hit too much...especially when they don't see it coming? Just look at David Carr, Joey Harrington or Tim Couch or late-career Drew Bledsoe. Once your head is screwed-up from getting leveled twice every four downs, it's damned near impossible to ever be a great NFL QB again.
