CALIFORNIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in California are looking for a man accused of forcing his 7-year-old son to get a tattoo.

Officers say the man held the boy down while another man tattooed a gang sign on his stomach.

If they track down the father he faces several criminal charges including child abuse and mayhem.

9. Yep
I was going to go back and edit my post

Manson went through pretty much the same thing in West Virginia if I remember correctly...that and spending age 15 to 19 in solitary but that might have been an accurate assessment not the cause.

6. I thought laws said "16" with parental consent.
But maybe that doesn't count if the tatoo artist is the guy next door.

7. Hells No!
West Daisy Ave. 4 life, yo!

I read somewhere once about a city where they wanted to get rid of the local gangs so they proposed changing the names of all the streets that the gangs were naming themselves after to really flowery names like Pansy St., Daffodil Rd. and Daisy Ave. AFAIK, never happened though. It sounds like the sort of stupid idea that Hartford would implement, frankly.

8. I hope the father and the guy who did it get charged with child abuse.
7 is obviously entirely too young to get a tattoo. They are permanent.

That aside, kids are scared of shots for God's sake. To force this poor child to get a tattoo is beyond cruel.

11. To tatoo a child that young is mutilation.
Father should be forced to endure tatoos all over his own body!

12. Well, if it's a wicked awesome timelessly-cool tat with deep family significance, then
of course 7 is way too young! This father is an absolute fuckup...

:grr:

14. The answer is yes.
But this is not a 'parent' rather just a breeding partner. Parent should be used in the positive sense, our kids deserve that regardless of how crappy the parent has been raised. I've failed in many many things in life, and in my late years have little that brings me pleasure, save the fact that I was a loving and supportive and kind parent and continue to be with them in their 20s.

15. I'd say no.
Aren't there various cultures around the world where this and other body modification is part of tradition?

I mean, this case obviously isn't comparable because it's forced. But I'm not going to say tattooing is inherently immoral for children.

16. Someone should hold down the father and tattoo "Short Eyes" on his forehead.
I'd call that an even trade.

18. Illegal in UK to do that, even with parental consent.
So yes it's wrong in my eyes. Now if it's a religious/cultural thing and it can be proved then I can bend the rules there... but for holding the boy down whilst tattooing a gang sign - Wrong. Dead. Wrong. That is child abuse.

Mark.

19. This is a horrible story
I have 20+ tattoo's. I couldn't imagine a child being forced into that much pain with life long scars.

Unrelated: I hope DU doesn't charge me with mayhem. I will be found guilty.

22. Nothing but absolute fury at the so-called 'parent'
:grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:  :grr:

I have 30+ hours under the gun, and i cannot imagine ever forcing another human being, especially a child, to endure what i have gone through by choice.

And on the stomach, no less... i've not gone there yet, but people i know who have expressed that it is damn-near every bit as painful as going down the sternum (supposedly the most painful place on the body), which i have done.

I hope those two a-holes have a good time in prison. I'd leave them there for life, if i was in charge of sentencing. Anyone who can do that to a kid is capable of being a sadistic a-hole to anyone.
