I just got a call from a dear friend who's been in prison for the past two years (long story, and complicated, but let me say that I do not believe that it was justified.) Anyway, he's OUT!!! This is someone I care a lot about, and have missed deeply. He's in Michigan, so I can't see him for a while--apparently, one of his final probation conditions involves him staying there for at least another 8 months. However, we might be able to go see him this Fall, even if he can't come here.
Anyway--I'm just so happy I could bounce around in my seat! He's such a great guy; a HUGE, burly, muscular, biker-looking guy from Detroit who loves puppies and cats and little kids, and who thinks it's hilarious that Rhythm and I call him "Princess"--an affectionate nickname borne of his excessive concern for his hair. :) When we went to Tampa in '06, he went with us, because he was worried about us being there all alone (Florida being a bit unfriendly to gay people like us.)
He's like the epitome of a "gentle giant" type. He was a HUGE hit at the lesbian bar around here; he used to work as a bouncer for the owner, and I've seen him gently pull apart two drunk women who were ready to kill each other and hold one like a child in each arm as he escorted them out the door--always politely. He was always so flattered when the gay guys would admire his muscles, lol. He thought it was sweet, even if he doesn't lean that way. We even got him into drag, once, at a charity event for the local AIDS shelter/counseling center--it was hilarious, and he took all of the ribbing like a champ. Everybody at the bar is gonna be SO excited to hear that he'll be home next spring.
Anyway--just SQUEE! It was so good to hear his voice! I had to share this joy.
