Why are Gay Bars so much more fun than straight ones?
I didn't actually plan to go to a gay bar, the place was sold end of last year and switched from a place that had live music to a small gay club. I hadn't been there since October and well, no one sends out notices.

Not only was the place fun (we ended up hanging out for 2 hours there until close) but we made plenty of friends and I learned what wolves & otters were (I knew what bears were. The one guy in our group kept calling this cute guy an Otter and I couldn't figure out why so I asked him).

2. I swear I must have a large neon sign over my head that screams "I'm Straight"
The bar actually is for Gays & Lesbians but there weren't that many women in there. And the one guy (a hottie from Jersey) looked at me and said "Well I know you're not in here looking for women because I can tell you're straight).

9. We have an English Pub that's right in the same area
The Irish Pub is about 8 blocks away. Anymore when it comes to drinking I prefer being someplace nearby so I can stumble home with little trouble. Two blocks is much easier than 8 blocks (that crosses a few major roads)

13. Well if you weren't living in 'Deliverance County' in New Jersey
you wouldn't have this issue.

You could also come visit me too. Bring the dogs along - I don't care.

And I like English bars - I'm English. Actually it's got an American theme to it but stilled as an English Pub.

And, I don't live in "Deliverance County." I live close to "Deliverance County." The KKK to the west and the Jackson Whites to the north. Meanwhile, the town next to us is like lesbian central.

Trust me, you do not want my dogs in your house. Your cats especially do not want my dogs in the house.

And nothing personal - if we were to put your dogs and my cat Evita into a caged fighting ring - my money is on Evita. She's tiny but absolutely vicious. Abbott would just look at your dogs funny and then lick is empty ballsacks.

Smart, wiry, fearless, and no sense of self-preservation. He almost took down a fucking deer awhile back, and wanted to take on a bear.

And I've seen her with the neighbor's Rott mix - the dog is scared of her.

grass is greener maybe...OR because you are different
from the crowd, the whole meat market aspect goes away and you can enjoy it. I know lots of hetero women who LOVE gay bars..I think its cause they don't have to fend off creepy men constantly..

7. I feel like I'm not judged at all
but the music did suck. I liked the rap music from the first club we went to (which I thought was another place with rock music but turns out they have hip-hop/rap music night on Fridays) than the techno crap they played at the gay club.

Most of the people I know who liked gay bars actually found them because they heard they were playing music they loved..

14. Where I live there are a lot of gay bars
Some are awful. Some are great. Most are inbetween.

In general, I don't like the music in gay bars so much - personal preference.

What do I like in a tavern? Just that, I like taverns. I'm too old to dance. My wife disapproves of me picking people up in bars anymore.

So I go to watch the ballgame and complain about life with my buddies.

Since I have become an old man I hang out in old man bars.

Circle of life and all that.

16. I love them
I've found it is much more comfortable for a straight woman, no need to impress, or be self conscious or feel rejected when no one checks you out. I can just go have a good time, dance my ass off, look at totally gorgeous men, I am really attracted to that type, very well groomed. You can totally be free, it seems anything goes there, you can dance in your bra all night and not be bothered, to me it is a refuge.

25. Otters are generally thin, hairy guys ...
as opposed to bears who are usually larger framed.

Wolves I know of two definitions - either an aggressive acting otter or someone who's a "loner" and by that I mean someone who isn't a member of a gay group and keeps to himself (a lone wolf).

32. I LOVE gay bars....
My #1 favorite thing about gay bars is being surrounded by men and sill feeling safe. I'm not grabbed on the dance floor, people look me in the eyes, and I can dance and drink without getting hit on. The people are nicer, the music tends to be better, and the mating rituals are fun to watch without having to participate.

Stop snickering, dammit! It was a fundraiser for a political campaign, for a man who would have been the first openly gay elected official of color in these United States, if only they'd listened to me instead of bringing in some high-powered consultant from Boston. :P

It wasn't what I expected at all. Nice cozy surroundings and good company. Nary a hint of leather, disco, what have you.
