Damn these women and their damn perfume
I'm going to have to evacuate my office.

I've got work to do.

It's not "official" policy, but it's strongly recommended not to wear heavy-duty perfume on this floor because some of us are sensitive.

This is a contractor, not an employee.

What do I do?

1. Are they covering up another smell
that might be more offensive?

2. get a gas mask and wear it to work
Maybe someone will get a clue.

Spray twice into the air, count to two, and walk through the spray.

That's all the fragrance anyone needs.

3. I hate strong perfumes
Quite often when I was teaching one of my five/six year olds would come to school drenched in some awful scent. I was stuck in the classroom all day with it. I would explain quietly to the child that I was allergic to perfume and usually the problem ended.

Last year I had a little perfumed one and followed my - its not your perfume, it's me line. I thought it worked. The perfume came back to school the next day. I quietly asked the little one to go down to the restroom and wash it off. She left the room and came back still smelling strong. That afternoon I called her home and left a message explaining the problem. On the third day, I had no perfume problem; instead I had a parent conference in which I was told in no uncertain terms that if I could not stand the smell of perfume I had no right to be in the classroom. This conference was then followed up by a conference where the principal was told the same thing. Go figure.

9. That's disruptive behavior
Don't you, as teacher, have the right to send a child out of your class for inappropriate clothing, etc?

Doesn't perfume fall in this category if it's triggering allergies, and hampering your ability to teach?

4. Nothing worse than cheap nasty perfume. I prefer the french perfumes
myself... Coco Chanel and Chanel Chance... and one local one called Girl...

The boys follow me home... the girls just go "mmmmmmm!"

6. End the contract
I got hit with heavy cologne on a man in the elevator. This is a company - not your local discoteque. Leave the "Polo" at home!!

7. Have you heard the Budweiser radio spot....
...for "Mr. Way Too Much Cologne-Wearer." It's sick and hilarious, and you would appreciate it.

10. Ask her, "Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?"
Seriously, tell her you have sensitive allergies, and the perfume is setting it off. If she continues, go to your supervisor, and hers, and explain that this is creating a hostile work environment for you.

The phrase 'hostile work environment' is usually enough to get managers scurrying to stop the offensive behavior.

11. As diplomatically as possible, mention it.
Seriously.

Many offenders aren't aware that they're as pungent as they are.

14. Yes and damn the men and their cologne.
I fucking hate perfume and cologne. It fucking STINKS and does not make you attractive. All anyone needs is some good unscented deodorant after a regular shower with soap. One of my severe pet peeves.
