What's wrong with people who don't like trees?
Seriously, I've come across some people who hate trees. Everyone of them who told me they didn't like trees were Repubs. Even Regean, the god of the party said, "You now, a tee is a tree, how many more do you need to look at?" One gal I worked with who heard me say how glad I was to be going camping so I could be in the trees..."What' so great about trees. I don't like them." And just the other week another gal said she was glad to be living in Sacramento instead of where she moved from because she didn't like pine trees. My bro-in-law and his family moved into a new home and he didn't want any trees around the house.

Along the 101 going to Windsor (N. Cal) the county is cutting down hundreds of redwoods. Some Christians back in the day hated trees because the Durids liked trees. A woman I knew who lived in Eureka said she hated trees and wished they'd all be cut down when I mentioned how beautiful the Redwood Forest was up there. Don't these people realize without trees our Earth would die? Oh, let's not forget that after every major fire newscrews go around houses and talk about how close the trees are to the house and should be cut down. Trees give shade and live and sound good when the wind blows through the pine or turn up the maple leaves to the white side. When settlers came over to N. America the first thing they'd do was cut down the trees. People who don't like trees should all move to the desert or the moon.

1. How many people are we talking about? I mean really.
people who don't like trees are about as numerous as those who don't like chocolate --and equally as important as well. :eyes:

Hey, if ole Newton was under the tree when the apple fell...then what? I guess someone would've come up with the same ideas he had eventually.

Than you think. Where do you think the epithet "tree hugger" comes from. Plenty of pampered spoiled rich people who hate nature.

3.  they have disconnected from nature
Edited on Wed May-13-09 01:13 PM by JitterbugPerfume
and that is a real pity , because if they like it or not they ARE a part of nature.

My neighbor told me that she likes trees but she realy hates the pine tree in her yard . She also told me she loves animals , but she really dislikes her dog.

she also dislikes yellow flowers.

disconnect!

21. I could understand not liking pines in your yard ...
... if you're a gardener. Most plants won't grow in the needles. But not liking one's own dog is unforgivable.

5. I absolutely love trees....
I am a product design engineer for the biggest manufacturer of cutting chain and accessories for chain saws and mechanical harvesting equipment in the world. We enable people all over the world to cut trees down.

At the same time we develop and sell reforestation equipment and encourage responsible forest management. Trees are our greatest sustainable natural resource.

TIMBER.....

10. I A "treeciate" Them Very Much
They have beauty..make a wonderful wind breaker...they are homes to many a feathered friend(and other assorted critters)...they give poets something to write about...many an hierloom in the home today came from a tree--even the humble toothpick hailed from a once thriving, living, breathing tree.
I have several trees that are the offspring of one my my front yard. I couldn't bare to part with mama trees children when she went wild one fall day!. A birdie planted a mini cedar and I now have that as well.
Trees rule!

11. Trees are sneaky bastards.
Did you know they wait until people have had too much to drink. Then the trees will leap out in front of their cars.

And they eat kids' kites.

12. I can understand the not wanting trees around the house thing.
Trees damage water lines, they uplift foundations, and they shade areas that could otherwise be used for gardens or lawns. With todays small urban/suburban lot sizes, there simply isn't enough room for trees.

My own property has 27 trees on it, so I'm certainly no tree hater.

13. One reason I love living in the Northwest is the gi-normous trees.
Our lot here in Oregon is filled with trees. Dozens of 'em. Maples. Western Cedars. Doug Firs. etc.

I first lived in Ohio as a lass and then spent the rest of my formative years in California, and it took me years to get used to the relative treelessness of many parts of Cali. I love those golden hills and Live Oaks in the Bay Area, but there is something about being sheltered and shaded by trees that makes me feel cozy and protected.

16. Oh good grief. The settlers cleared some areas so they could grow crops.
Edited on Wed May-13-09 04:47 PM by Mugu
As they moved west they brought trees with them. It was the Great Plains (not the Great Woods) before the white man infected it with trees. In wildfire areas they advise clearing brush from around homes not mature trees.

I have numerous Walnut trees including one in front of my house and one beside. I just love them most of the time. But, every other Fall I hate them sons of bitches. The one beside the house routinely drops over 200 gallons of nuts. Picking them up is a monumental pain in the ass and Walnuts stain the hell out of everything they touch.

The Oak trees out front drop literally tons of acorns I don't mind those as much, but the neighbors know to hide when I mow because the Kubota can really throw acorns. The Locus trees along the driveway are beautiful, but another pain in the ass cleanup after. The Weeping Willows around the pond are old and when they fall they inevitably land in the pond. In the fall it takes days to clean up all the leaves and the fire usually lasts for over 24 hours. I must also burn around the pond every year so the Willow saplings don't take over.

So far this year I've cleaned up two of the five trees that the last snow storm crushed, but I got off pretty easy. My sister and brother-in-law lost more than 20 in that storm and several of them fell across the driveway so they missed a day of work because they couldn't get out.

I love trees, but I'd guess the people that who profess their undying love for them don't have to clean up after any.

Edit for spelling.

18. Bad guess
I live in a Redwood forest. The area around my house is littered with Redwood cones, needles, brush, etc. Along with the Redwoods are many other kinds of trees, all dropping their own litter. I can't grow a lawn or a garden or flowers or much of anything else. I really don't care. When I walk out my door, I see these magnificent trees soaring into the air. It makes it worth it to me to sweep my deck and my roof, pick up brush, cut dead branches.

We've lost trees, had one come down not five feet from the deck a couple of years ago. Another narrowly missed my husband's truck. Sometimes they take out the electrical lines, or damage the outbuildings. I don't blame the trees - damage happens when you own property and if it wasn't the trees, it might be something else. In fact, they serve as a windbreak, shade us in the summer and insulate in the winter.

I've always lived in the woods, around trees, and I like it that way. Cleaning up after them is just part of life.

19. Well, because of some rain we had two weeks ago
here. An oak tree crashed on a car and killed a little 5 year old boy. The oaks here are chunky and very heavy and once it rains too much there's lots of tree's going to fall. I have some big trees around where I live and yes, I've noticed them slightly tipped a bit so I sure hope they don't crash in my house. So yes, of course trees can be a pain. I just cleaned up my back area and once the rain and wind came back all those dead leaves and pine needles fell all over the place.

25. Something is seriously wrong with them.
I know an Ethiopian woman who is rather afraid of trees (not really afraid, but they make her feel clausterphobic) because she grew up in a completely open landscape with no trees around. That I can understand.

But to me there is absolutely nothing better than walking through a cool, quiet redwood forest. Sometimes when I get the chance to do it (not much opportunity in Chicago), I find myself welling up with tears because I think it's so beautiful and calming to be surrounded by the trees and ferns and moss and needles underfoot. Sigh...

27. I am praying that a tree gives us a big blessing one day...
... though the tree probably wouldn't think of it that way.

I'm hoping that one day one of the trees falls down whilst we're away right down into the middle of our singlewide trailer home and damages it beyond repair. Then we can claim on the insurance and get a decent one. It is in dire need of modernization and repair in some places and we just don't have the money to fix it up right now.

In any case I have nothing against trees. We need them... they keep our home way cooler in the summer (much lower cooling bill) but happen to be a bummer in the autumn with these leaves coming down and in the spring with that pollen coating the vehicles... but those are minor annoyances that given the benefits they bring... I can definitely live with trees.

Plus how can you take a walk through a forest if there are no trees in it? Plus most of them are pretty good to look at too.

Mark.

31. My trees
The cherry and two apples, covered with flowers in the spring, then providing fresh fruit. The spruce that I planted the day we moved to our house, now two stories high. The cedars dense with foliage. The maple and linden, tall and full, that shade us in the summer. And the pin oak, brilliant red-orange in the fall, where the squirrels play and eat. I love my trees.

35. THANK YOU.
WHY in the name of all that is good do developers CUT DOWN ALL THE TREES when they build houses?
I will NEVER, EVER EVER buy a house that has trees younger than 50 years old in the yard. Never.
And I'll plant more.
My dad bought the house we lived in for years specifically because it had 16 trees in the yard. That was his selling point.

May I offer as evidence, our backyard:

We've had satellite tv people recommend we cut down the trees to get better reception. We told them to go jump in a lake and switched to cable. It's a freakin' sanctuary in our backyard and it's BECAUSE of the trees. Nobody touches our trees!
