Dead Milkmen Bassist Commits Suicide
That's too bad...reminds me of my college radio show.

1. Obviously he's in heaven talking to Bob Crane right now....
And Bob is saying, "life is shit, life is shit, the world is shit......"

This sucks. The DM's, sad to say, were the "gateway" band for me as far as getting my feet wet with punk rock. Had it not been for songs like "Takin' Retards to the Zoo" or "Stuart" or "Nitro Burnin' Funny Cars" I might never have discovered the Clash, or The Damned, or Husker Du, etc.

This sucks.

3. Remember "Bitchin' Camero"???
The intro to that song was classic.

"We're gonna go see my favourite cover band 'Crystal Shit'." :D:D:D

5. Admittedly....
they were funny when I was 12. I kinda cringe at that stuff now.

But......Some of it is still pretty funny, especially the "Beelezebubba" album. That's got tons of good songs on it. And I have a VHS copy of their appearance on MTV's "120 Minutes" from 1989, with VJ Kevin Seal, where they completely take the piss out of every question Seal hands them and turn the show into something utterly surreal. If it hadn't been for seeing that show at an impressionable age, I would have turned out totally different.

You just wouldn't think that a guy in a band like that would be depressed, that he wouldn't be able to laugh the pain away.

8. So, RKZ...
...what are the chances of me taking a gander at that 120 Minutes tape, huh?

My story is similar to yours. "Big Lizard in My Back Yard" was the first punk rock record I ever owned, even though it can hardly be called "punk rock" with a straight face; but that's just the point, isn't it?

The Milkmen never did anything with a straight face. Fenris posted this thread earlier:

It contains a link to the official Dead Milkmen message board, Dave's sister broke the news. She said he'd been depressed for a very long time, and that the death of their mother in January may have pushed him over the edge.

Nonetheless, some part of me has to believe that Dave's somewhere now; laughing as us 'cause we don't get the joke.

9. Send me a blank.
I'll make a copy for you. You still have my addy, right? And I'll put some extra goodies on there, too.

10. Actully, could you PM me the addy?
I deleted it after I got directions to your pad, foolishly assuming... well, just plain foolishly.

I'm all about the video goodies!

4. that band is not pretty
look at this lyric:

Dead Milkmen
Takin' Retards To The Zoo

It's a boring day - I've got nothing to do
Except to get a load of retards and drive em to the zoo
Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo (x2)
Load 'em on a bus just for laughs
Down a winding road stepping on the gas
Down a winding road just to stay dreaming
Down a winding road with the retards screaming
Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo (x2)
One of them blowing a big spit bubble
Slam on the brakes at the first sign of trouble
Head on collision bodies everywhere
Head on collision retards beware
Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo (x2)

Sorry but that ain't music to me.

6. That's because you're not a geeky 12 year old boy
with some severe antisoical tendencies, like I was when I found that song brilliant. Like I said, I cringe at some of their music nowadays.....

But the same argument could be made about Zappa, who's my own personal deity. You need to approach it with a sense of humor and a politically incorrect outlook - an outlook that proclaims EVERYTHING a target of satire; nothing is sacred to a good satirist....
