I'm coming out to my mom tonight. I need good vibes, and perhaps a place to catch a shower...

just in case she kicks me out. I live in Denver, I promise to be a good puppy and I am house broken. Some might think I'm a lady, but sometimes I'm a tramp. :P

Well, anywho, yeah, if they kick my ass out, will someone please God feed me and let me take a shower and maybe do some laundry? I can stand everything else, but being stinky is not one of them.

3. If I were in Denver
I would definitely offer a place to showerbut since I'm in Upstate New York it would be a really long commute for a shower.

Good luck talking to your mom. Hopefully getting kicked out won't be an issue, family can have a way of being there for you when you least expect it.

4. Cool for you! Hope it goes well. My shower is open, if you can catch a ride to Austin.
Are you expecting her to be upset, or just afraid she will?

10. That's what happened to my sister's best friend.
"Mom, I'm gay."

"No shit. Pass the peas."

Congrats!

22. When I came out, mom had guessed it...
She's disappointed (no grandchildren, et al) but even if I was a flaming hetero, I know I don't have the emotional development necessary to raise kids. I donate to causes, but there is an old proverb, which reads

"A man who is smart enough to realize he is a fool isn't entirely foolish."

27. So hopefully all went well?
I often wonder about one of my best friends. He and his wife are the only ones who DON'T know that their 24 year old son is gay. Their son is a brilliant composer at a very prominent music academy (writes opera), and our mutual friends who are gay say that there's absolutely no doubt, but for some reason his parents are adamant that he's straight and "just a gentleman who never speaks about the women he's involved with". I don't get it. The young man's parents are progressives who support marriage equality, so why can't they see and accept the obvious? It makes me sad because it's become clear that their son has a man in his life who he seems fairly serious about, but he hasn't come out to them yet so his BF doesn't come home with him during the holidays or visit with his parents when they are in town. I hope that he finds the courage you did someday soon! They are close in every other respect, but for some reason they just can't seem to come to terms with it yet.:-(

Where she told her friends she's gay and they all started paying or collecting their bets.

20. That is absolutely priceless. When my dear friend came out to me he said "You know I'm gay, right?"
And I said, "I think I knew before you did."

He has told me since that it was one of the best reactions he got.

19. I'm glad to hear it went well for you! It's so sad the parents who will accept anything but gayness.
I can only begin to imagine the fear and loathing that many must feel about telling their parents they are gay, and the courage it has to take to say it.

And so wonderful when the parents' reaction is acceptance and love!
