I've often wondered how you get into the escort biz, how well it pays, and if there are any benefits. I'm thinking that you guys are independent contractors seeing as how you have to use your own vehicles. That kind of work would be more desireable to me, but I need health insurance and because I have a pre-existing condition I can't get private health care insurers to cover the cost of the treatment. Truck it up, Joani, and be safe out there. :thumbsup:

I like working for myself.
I've already met one trucker who I'll never work with x( but I think most of 'em will be gentlemen.

It is slow going ~but~ it's great to be out here on the road.

We cannot travel on the weekends ... I am stuck in western Pennsylvania until Tuesday morning.
The WIFI signal isn't strong enough in my room so I'll be spending my computer time in the lobby.

You ask a number of questions the other day that I'm sorry I didn't have the time to answer before I left home. I'll be happy to give you as much information as I can.
Yes, I am an independent contractor. Thus far I haven't earned enough to cover the cost of equipping my Jeep but by the end of this trip I expect the startup cost to be covered.
One very important thing to remember when starting any business ... you must have enough capital to keep the business going until the checks start rolling in.
My first escort was paid on the same day I did the job ~ Thank you Benson Steel!
My next 3 escorts were for a local builder's supply company ... on the 28th of this month the account will be 30 days past due. I don't think I'll need to turn it over to a collection agent but I will fight for the money I have earned!
I won't get paid for this trip until the load is delivered and the broker is paid. I may not see that check for another 2 to 4 weeks.
There is a freight broker in Florida that pays ( sometimes less per mile ) but sooner. It only makes sense for me to sign on with them. I'll need to contact my insurance carrier to add that company to my $1,000,000 liability coverage ( some states require $2,000,000 ~ looks like I'll be upping my coverage).
Bottom line ~ I like the driver I'm with now. I'm willing to wait for the money if it comes down to escorting a load with Jeff over a driver I haven't met yet. That is the good thing about being an independent contractor.

My job is to protect the public not the load I'm escorting.

Sometimes drivers are thinking about dinner plans instead of what is moving down the road infront of them.

Hopefully my flashing lights will get their attention before they drive too closely to a load weighing 90 tons.
