I love it when people leave me passive-aggressive comments in my Honesty Box.
(Anonymous facebook messages, essentially)

"You don't need to relate your sexual orientation to everything you do. It's a part of who you are, but it's not absolutely everything."

I love how this is probably from someone who never hangs out with me and doesn't even know my real sexual orientation. It's probably from a family member, since they're the only ones who say stuff to me like that.

Like, I'm somewhat of a boy/girl crazy teenager, but I'm not all "LALALA LOOK AT ME I'M BI." It's more like "So, I like this guy...I like this girl..." Apparently, there's something wrong with that and you need to start scaring more internalized homophobia/biphobia into me.

1. It's a big deal and I would probably think differently of my sexuality if I wasn't straight
Being straight means that you don't have to deal with anybody treating you badly for being who you are. Being straight means that you don't feel the need to hide a part of yourself. Being straight means being accepted in most social groups. You're not going to get discriminated against for being straight. You can marry your your partner if you are straight.

2. I've heard the same thing, and generally tell people to STFU
If a straight person holds their SO's hand or kisses their cheek in public, it's unnoticed. If I do, then i'm "making a big deal" or some other crap?

No... and STFU.

If a straight person talks about what they and their 'better half' did over the weekend, nobody cares. If i do so, i get eyerolled at or otherwise disapproved of verbally.

Like i said... STFU.

I see 100 different rubber bracelets on everyone from waify little girls to big, burly truckers. 100 different colors to support every cause you can imagine. When i wear my rainbow-striped one, in support of my equal rights as an American citizen, i get bugged about why i 'have to wear that thing'?

STFU.

6. Thanks, hon... but i'm not all that. I just refuse to be mistaken for a doormat by idiots
I was out in 1984, in a high school in North Carolina. I am no different now than i was then.

I pretty much double-dog-dare people to treat me like i am somehow less than they are because the person i love and share my life with has all the same kinds of 'private parts' that i do. When they occasionally do, i make sure they never make that mistake again, because being made to see what an idiot you are is pretty emotionally painful for most people... even the dumb ones.

4. Calling it an 'Honesty Box' just screams for P/A comments.
I almost feel like calling it an 'Honesty Box' is P/A in and of itself.
