Question about Cards /Cubs game last night for you fans
Edited on Thu May-21-09 12:22 PM by darkstar
I was out and the place had sound down. Wainright served as pinch hitter around the 5th, right? Is he a pretty good hitter?

But on top of that, I heard later he's starting today. So mo generally, is it a fairly unusual move to PH the day before you start? I don't know if I can recall it, but I'm not the big fan some of you are...

2. Waino is a serviceable PH

The problem for St. Louis is that, since Carp was on a pitch count and it was the fifth inning, it was already decided that the bench would be used up pretty quickly, so instead of use Brian Barden, Rick Ankiel, Khalil Greene, Jason LaRue or Tyler Greene, they instead went ahead with a non-position player. It shouldn't affect Waino's arm though.

Also, La Russa almost always makes a double-switch at some point late in the game, so that also knocks one player off the bench.

3. Cub pitcher Carlos Zambrano is a very good hitter and pinch
hits quite often on days when he is not pitching. I'd have to research it, but I believe he has done this the day before he is scheduled to pitch. Frankly, if Z devoted himself only to hitting, he would be the best on the team IMO.

7. That was a boring game, but the bottom of the 9th inning....
was more exciting than the entire Giants/Padres game.
