One of my biggest fears is watching horror movies.

When I was nine my sister was watching a horror movie(I won't say which one because some asshole will post pics from it)and I looked around the door and I watched a few seconds of it. I had nightmares of it for six years and I am still terrified of horror movies and have not watched one since. Is this weird?

I loved "The Shining" when I was 6!! I so wasn't supposed to watch it, but it is still my fave scary movie.

when we were in third grade, and then all these flies started flying by his bedroom window. We were so fucking scared but it was so fun!!!! :)

kinds, ghost stories, in fact you should rent The Orphanage, it's scary but it's not bloody and it's just a really good and totally unappreciated movie. Aliens and monsters and asian horror movies, i love all those, it's the human monsters i can mostly due without, ie...no Saw movies.


And CCharles i've watched The Exorcist about 50 times and it still scares me.

And I've pretty much have seen them all.

that is the one movie i will not own, don't want it in my house.

My brother met me at the theater.....but I was so freaked out by the movie (and that scene specifically), that I made my brother follow me back home in his car, and made him sleep at my house.

TOTALLY had me bent out of shape. :scared:

they had the spiderwalk thing in that too, i hate that.

It was on TV at my next door neighbour's while I was hanging out there. I ran home like a bolt of lightning afterwards, but have been in love with horror films and zombies ever since.

that's one trippy moive, bloody but good.

As of the time of its release, it was far and away the most horrifying film ever put onscreen.

That was one of those kids movies where i told my kid i was going to take a nap, do not wake me until the credits roll at the end, course she didn't listen!

I do think they can be a great way to let your subconscious deal with fears in a safe, controlled environment, and for some people that's a good thing.

The last movie to give me nightmares wasn't a horror movie in the traditional sense, it was Threads, a movie about a nuclear war between the US and Russia in the mid 80's. But because of that movie I really delved into the subject of nuclear energy, nuclear weapons, the Cold War, etc, so it was a good thing in that it scared me enough to want to understand it all better.

But I think I was destined to like horror movies no matter what. When I was 6 I still had to go to bed early, and one night my father came upstairs and woke me up and asked if I wanted to come down and watch a cool movie. He and my mother had argued about whether I should watch it, because she thought I'd have nightmares if I did. It was Godzilla. And she was right. I had nightmares for weeks, but I was hooked.

It's like music or tv or anything else. For some people it's cool and for some it's not. Neither position is weird to me. I've seen some messed up stuff, and I listen to some strange music, so I can totally understand why some of it is too much for others.

Some people just aren't into them.

Did you see Sin City? Not really a Horror movie. But most horror movies aren't anymore violent than that. Except for the slasher crap. Can't get into that SAW or Hostel type stuff. That stuff isn't even scary though. It's just... :puke:

Thought The Dark Knight was a waste of time. My kid made me watch Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill. I can't remember anything about any of them -- just too much violence.

I get nightmares from violent movies. Don't need them.

When I was two and three yrs old my sister and I went to Saturday matinee movies - got scared shitless by The Incredible Shrinking Man and The Blob.

I was way too young to see those - and they were very mild by today's standards. I can't watch slimy reptile things like in Alien either -- grosses me out.

I cna't even watch shows based on real life. i saw Helter Skelter years ago and had to sleep with the lights on for two weeks.

be entertained or learning something. I refuse to waste time or money being scared shitless.

You are wise to avoid it. My wife and daughter won't watch it.

It's understandable to be afraid of something that traumatized you as a child, and it sounds like seeing that stuff was traumatic for you.

And it seems to me there's no reason to conquer this fear unless you feel you're missing out on something by not enjoying horror flicks... but if you don't care then what does it matter? If you thought that the fear was negatively impacting your life, then you might at least consider trying to work on it.

My trauma was at the hands of a babysitter who let me stay up and watch a movie about killer spiders on TV when I was five. At age twelve I tried to get through a very cheesy, probably-not-very-scary movie called 'Terror Train' on a Saturday afternoon w/ my friends and ended up with my head in my lap the whole time.

I HATE scary movies and if I want to be terrified I can think about the state of the world today for free. If I'm going to pay $9, I want to leave the theatre either happy or intellectually challenged-- not afraid to go into the basement to get my laundry!

I've made it to middle age without watching horror movies and so can you. :)

I like them when they're good, but a whole lot of people don't like them at all. You're certainly not alone in this regard. You can have a happy and fulfilling life without ever viewing a horror movie.

Unless you're aiming for some sort of Buddha-like enlightenment and awareness of all things, I wouldn't be concerned about it.
