My brother is such a dick! (anyone else got insane siblings/relatives?)

My brother is a super conservative... he agrees 100% with everything Bush (I'm convinced that i should probably just say Rove because he know Bush is the stupidest president ever) and he wants to join the marines to kill people in other countries. He loves FAUX NEWS (:grr:) and RUSH LIMBAUGH (:grr:). Just the other day he was arguing that gays and lesbians should be put on their own little island to stop the controversy here (by the way, he's for the ammendment)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your brother is pretty young, too, I take it? Maybe he'll grow out of it. He sounds like a real asshole. Don't give up on him for good. If he goes to college, or has other life-expanding experiences, he may yet come around.

My brother is 40. He's not going to grow out of it. Oh, besides Faux and Limbaugh, he also gets his news from Drudge. He's an Ayn Rand Objectivist. Greed is his god.

My mother and most of the rest of the family are Pat Robertson / Jerry Falwell reich-wingers. I don't think there's a sane person in my family and very few sane people in my county.

OK, maybe I don't exactly hate the county and its citizens, but I sure wish I could move to the coast.

I love it up there, but yes I noticed a distinct Freeper mind set outside of the Pinecrest area...

It's beautiful, but I was born here, raised in the local fundy school, etc., so I'm used to the scenery. Although a few more broad-minded folk have moved into the area, it's still a freeper stronghold.

My family and my friends are--to a person--right-wingers and/or fundies. The ongoing interaction is heartbreaking. Within the last six months, my mother has accused me of being demon-possessed; a friend of mine told me I had no hope without Jesus (after he promised to not proselytize); my mother put me on the spot to attend a fundy sing-along, etc. My fundy upbringing was dysfunctional and abusive (physically, emotionally and sexually), so every time something like this happens, it's like hot knives are being thrust into ancient, still-aching wounds.

If I had a chance to get away, I might be able to heal.

But the thing is, I'm disabled and stuck. I've tried the whole forgiveness route, but it isn't working for me. I find I have trouble forgiving when the person inflicting the hurt isn't sorry and will do it again as soon as the opportunity arises.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this issue. I have two choices: 1) Learn to live around these people, or 2) go stark raving mad. I can't move away. I want to move away, but I can't. :cry:

They call themselves moderates (i think my dad just says hes a moderate because he cheated on my mom and wants her to think that theyre agreeing on everything because my mom is over-sensitive) but they screamed at me when i joined DU. It still confuses me but they seem more and more on his side every day.

He's the classic numbskull Freeper, dittohead, etcetera. Right now he's surely campaigning for Bush's re-selection campaign, along with my stupid step-mom.

See, I'm normally tolerant of other people's views, that is, if they're tolerant of mine. He is not open to other's views, and is very O'Reilly-esque if you disagree with him. He also hates Bill Clinton. Did I mention he told my mother that if he had the chance he would kill him? Now that's scary, only if you don't take into consideration that he's such a coward when my grandfather forced him to sign up for the Army (grandfather's a liberal, he just wanted to toughen him up and get him to see what a hypocrite he was), he only lasted 2 weeks. Kinda Dubya-ish, don't you think?
