Life just sucks.
So my car breaks down in a wooded area. I can't get it started, so I need a tow or some help. To make matters worse, my dog is running loose and won't come to me. I walk 3/4 of a mile and finally see other human beings who work at a mental health facility. On the way a couple of cars pass me but I am unable to flag them down. When I finally get to a human, I ask one of them to call my very friendly dog, so he could help me catch him. It takes me a while to talk him into this but finally he calls my dog and I get him on a leash.

I ask if he has a cell phone and he doesn't. I ask the woman if she has one and she does. So I ask her if she would let me use it to call a tow company and she says no, but she will call the tow company. So I tell her a number but its wrong. I ask if she would mind calling information to get the number and she says she will not because it would cost her $5. So she asks somebody else if they know the number and finally, after 15 minutes we get the number and call the tow agency.

I wait outside for more than an hour for the tow truck driver. He determines that my car has a starting problem and hooks it up to be towed. He will take me in the cab of his truck but he doesn't want my dog in the truck. So my poor dog gets to be in the towed car for 6 miles. You wouldn't leave a person in a vehicle being towed but its ok to leave a dog.

Its Saturday and nobody can work on the car until Tuesday. I am supposed to work today, tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday and I have no way to get there except public transportation which will take me 2 hours each way and isn't even available on the holiday. I don't have the money to get my car fixed and I can't afford to miss work, and I can't afford to take a cab. I don't have a cell phone and I can't afford one. I am just sick of living like this.

2. vehicles suck, not life
I see lots of things in your post that can be incorporated into a "at least you have..." or "on the bright side..." but you probably don't need or want that right now.

I have ridden in the "towed" vehicle before - broke down with the whole damn family. It was on the back of the truck, not being pulled, but still - it's not so bad.

4. I can't believe its so hard to get help when you need it.
I practically had to beg this lady to call a tow agency for me. When I had a cell phone and I saw somebody stranded with a vehicle I would always stop and offer to make a call.

5. and it always seems like it somebody almost worse off than you who actually WILL stop and help
I have NEVER been helped by anybody in a nice vehicle - and I have been broke down way more than I like to think about.

If you don't have it, be sure to add a towing rider to your vehicle insurance - its only a couple of bucks a year and worth every penny. Hell, I have used my whole premium, most years in towing because I live and drive in the middle of nowhere and "the closest repair facility" is always at least 30 to 50 miles

6. I'll second that on the nice vehicle and help thing.
I bet that's true 95% of the time.

Something about money that leads to an increase in fear and a decrease in kindness.

I thought you'd find this chart interesting, and unsurprising. Sad, isn't it.

Not all people are like what you experienced today--just keep telling yourself that. It was just unfortunate that you ran into stingy people.

9. Eff that lady!
Karma will find her! One day, her car will break down but it will be in a worse place and nobody is going to help her and her phone wont have service and she will be 46 miles out of town instead of just six, then her house full of cats will not eat because she will not make it home for dinner! LOL I am sorry you had such a shitty day! But they are right, not all people are like that and at least nothing else went wrong! LOL Your silly dog is funny, what was he doing that he wouldnt come to you?

16. The lady who didn't want to call information for me
was a nurse at the mental health center. I guess they run out of empathy. She told me it would cost her $5 to call information and get the number and I told her I would give her $5 to do it and she still wouldn't. The person she asked to do it instead was a visitor.

My dog is a year old pup. He's been doing fairly well with the "come" command. Yesterday he was eating dead fish, going after the ducks and their new babies, and just generally running wild like he didn't have a care in the world. When he gets like that he will come to anyone but me...

Ugh. I have no car and I have to leave two hours before start time to take the bus. Afterwards it will take me two hours to get home. That's a 12.5 hour day.

12. Go get yourself a crappy little prepaid phone.
A cheap one shouldn't set you back more than 20 bucks and should include some free minutes. The first time it saves your ass in a situation like this it will have more than paid for itself.
