I pretty much forgot I even had it. A few months ago I paid off the credit card I do use because they were raising my interest rate for no reason (I always paid on time). As to the one I wasn't using, I got a letter informing me that they were raising the interest rate to an amount of a *minimum* of 18.99% (it had been about 8%) unless I notified them in writing that I wanted to close the account. The letter explained that this had nothing to do with my individual credit or payment history, but was simply a decision based on the needs of the business, or something to that effect.
While I realize that canceling an unused credit card can take a few points off your credit score, I decided to hell with them, and I wrote a "Fuck You, Strong Letter To Follow" letter, a flaming nastygram informing them that yes, I wanted the account canceled: I considered them to be a bunch of thieves, grifters and usurers; and that I was quite certain this move was simply a last-ditch effort to extort money out of their best customers before the government slammed the door hard on their sleazy asses.
A few weeks later I got a form letter acknowledging the account was closed, thanking me for being a good customer and expressing the wish that I would do business with them in the future...
