Please comment on the breed of my pet dog and avatar, Ginny.
Edited on Mon May-25-09 06:43 PM by NYC_SKP
If you have an opinion, that is. What breed might she be?

Ginny was a pound puppy, found wandering the streets and estimated to be 1-1/2 years at time of adoption.
She has many cat-like behaviors and prefers cat food, I suspect she was in the company of cats for some time and may have shared the cat-food meals left by so many cat lovers.

My best bet is that she has a little "Norwich Terrier" in her, but is almost certainly a mutt.

1. Terrier-Maltese mix?
The soft silky hair looks like she might have some Maltese in her, but the face and build are definitely terrier (maybe Jack Russell?). Try to get her used to dog food, though. Cat food has different nutritional elements and is not meant for dogs.

She is very cute! :)

2. Oh, cat food is OUT! I've been told poodle/chihuahua/terrier.
Searching for movie star dog Friday, many say "wirehaired jack russell", but I don't thinks so, maybe some.

Thanks! :hi:

15. Some pics & videos
Just so everyone else knows, I contact NYC-SKP because his avatar looked like my dog beasley shown below.
It's not very common to find other terrier mixes that look like him so this is quite a coinkydink.

16. OMG...Beasley and Ginny, separated at birth?
I think Beasley is maybe a bit bigger, a big brother.

Now here's a really weird part:

Ginny was adopted with another dog, Cooper, who looks just like that other dog.

Bearded collie???

26. Yes
My other dog, Rodney, is a bearded collie. That's just too much wierdness about cooper being adopted at teh same time. Cue the eerie halloweeen music.

17. Here's Cooper.
Not his best shot, and less sweeping straight flowing hair, but similar breed and remarkably similar coloring all over.
Grey with white socks.

7. No shedding, just a few hairs.
Her coat is light and thin, and some of her hairs are translucent...oddly.

That's more than one for "part poodle".

Thanks!

10. that's odd
Funny you mention that because the shelter I got my dog from said he was a tibetan terrier mix which is actually not what he is. I've given up long ago trying to guess what he is but I think more likely, he is a parson russell terrier mixed with some golden retreiver.

11. Your dog weighs how many pounds?
Ginny is nine pounds. I think a little Jack Russell may be in there, her ears are a darker color from her body.

Beasley is heavier than he looks. 26 lbs but still fits comfortably in my lap.

37. Yes. JRT and NorFOLK terrier mix.
Norwich has the prick ears. Norfolk ears fold over.

Looks a lot like Muttley, a dog I had for 14 years.

19. Thank you.
Yes, she does!

Lately however, she's stayed most nights with my 83 y.o. mom and dad so much I've decided to them them "keep" her.

She get's much more attention and was really important to my mom keeping it together while my dad was in hospital with dementia and hydrocephalus since march 11, he came home last week.

:hi:

Your OP made me laugh, because we joke that Elmo is "part cat" too -- he has that same stubborn, independent streak. I think that is typical of terriers, and i totally love it. :D
