I friggin hate Scorpions
Last night we found the second one in less than a week. The first was on the back of the couch and the one last night was by the front door.

I've never been stung, and I've developed serious anxiety that I'm going to be. I know what I'm imagining is probably worse than what could actually happen.

Damn stupid, friggin stinging bugs!! Stay out of my house!

1. I hate them too.
The first year I lived in Texas I got stung in the middle of my back in the middle of the night.

I had been so anxious about it before being stung I had some gel called "summer gel" on hand and applied it and immediately the pain stopped. But before I put it on, the pain was horrible. It felt like my back was on fire.

I dont know what else works for the stings, but get something and put it where you know how to find it FAST in case you do get stung.

The stuff I used is made by my local compounding pharmacy and I think it is only sold at their drug store.

4. I'll try to find that
Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

We are in rural central texas. Prime scorpion country. Most bugs don't bother me. Bees, Wasps, Ants, not even Spiders. Just those damn prehistoric looking scorpions. What possible niche in the ecosystem could they possibly play?!?

17. Scorpions are prehistoric, not just prehistoric looking
they're older than the dinosaurs, though they used to be much bigger.

7. but seriously
I lived in Tejas for 17 years and never ever encountered one.

Though I was freaked out by the size of the tarantulas in the hills of Austin. :scared:

12. I had a neighbor who had an emperor scorpion as a pet.
He'd just set it on his shirt and walk around like he had a really ugly brooch on. :P

I found a snake in my house this weekend. That's pretty scary too. :wow:

9. A snake?!?
Ok, you win. :D

I know we need to mow and use the weedeater around the house. With no place to hide, the don't come as close.

13. That's the weird thing about it.
I just found a really great guy who mows really close and cleans out the triffids (I have no clue what those things are but they grow 2 feet per week) around the house.

How this snake got in has me worried. I'm not sure if he came in while I was preoccupied with petting some neighborhood dogs and bringing my groceries in that night or if he found another way in. :scared:

10. I lived in South Florida where there are plenty of scorpions.
Once, when I was a kid, my stepfather was stung by one when he put on his shoe. They are known to be found in shoes. Ever since that time, I always shook out my shoes before putting them on.

11. Must just be south FL, 'cause I lived in Orlando for 20 years and I saw a grand total of one
iiiiitsy bitsy tiny one. I may have encountered more, but if they were that small I probably just didn't see them. :)

15. Weird. I have the opposite experience from you.
I've lived in South Florida for almost a decade and I've never seen a scorpion. Not once. But for a few months before moving here, I lived with my parents a little ways north of Daytona, and in those couple months I used to see those little guys all the time. My parents, though, were in a new development, so the critters hadn't quite moved on yet.

14. You Texans have some nasty critters... I still have a pink mark on my chest
from a spider bite I got in Bryan over a year ago.

16. I hear ya!
It's more than ok to be creeped out by them... they're creepy-looking critters.

I find about a dozen a year around my house. I have tweezers about 10" long that are meant for removing pickles and olives from a jar but I use them instead for picking up scorpions. That way I don't have to squish them on the carpet or walls.

Just stay alert when you're moving things around the house. The scorpion doesn't see us as food so they would rather avoid us if at all possible.

18. A lot of them fluoresce under UV.
Good way to locate them if you're worried that they're around.

19. If it is small, it may be very poisonous.
I used to have pet scorpions, but they were large (about 6" to 8" long) and were only about as poisonous as a bee.

The little scorpions are supposed to be nasty, so I always stayed away from them.
