Another slang origin question

A while back I asked about the origin of the phrase "cool beans", and got some enlightenment. Now I'm wondering about another phrase, and I'm sure someone here has an idea about the origin:

"Damn skippy!"

I heard it for the first time years ago, and have seen it increase in usage ever since. Does anyone have a guess as to the origin?

Thanks. These are the things that interest me when I should be working.

1. May have been Sluggy Freelance

He featured a couple of story lines in his online comic strip that were titled Yippy Skippy The Evil. The phrase has stuck around in his strips for some time.
