Out of the clear blue Western sky it is Sky King.
I sort of remember this Saturday kid show.

There are a few episodes of this show on You Tube.

There is more Saturday kid shows there.

Now back to Sky King, when did he ever run his ranch.

He was always flying in this plane.

1. Too cool -
I remember watching Sky King on Saturdays too. Didn't he have a young nephew who lived with him and an older man who cooked and kept house?

3. He had a niece named Penny.

I was a little to young to remember the show back in 1958.

I must have watched the repeats in the early 60's.

Just type in Sky King and enjoy.

8. I wanted a horse of my own back then.
Yes, I watched Fury too.

I'd make a whole tray of cinnamon toast to enjoy with the shows.

14. Fire up the SongBird, Penny!
Small world, my brother in law did all the flying for the show, he was an ad exec with Cessna as an account, and ex Air Force pilot, F-86 era. On publicity flights, he'd have Kirby Grant sit in the left hand seat and (where the "pilot" would sit. As they would approach the waiting throngs, Kirby would make exagerrated steering motions with his arms as if guiding the 310 in, but in fact it is steered with the feet, my b in law doing all that. he would then slide the right side seat all the way back to let kirby step out in cowboy hat to the adulation of all the fans.

22. What I remember from my Saturday mornings on the radio were
Big John and Sparky, "the little elf from the land of make-believe who wants more than anything else to be a real boy."

Big John introduced me to some classical music that I still like today.

Then came the Buster Brown show with Froggy the Gremlin.

After that came my all-time favorite, Space Patrol with Buzz Corey and Happy, IIRC. That one had me eating Wheat Chex and Rice Chex to get the box-tops for their cheezy premiums. (That cereal wasn't easy to get in Mediocrity Central, where I lived.) Only a quarter and a box-top. I bugged my dad for weeks in anticipation of the arrival of my latest Space Patrol purchase.

24. There was a time when radio and TV coincided, but we were one
of the last families to get a TV on my block, so I continued with radio into the 50s. Radio was better because you could IMAGINE anything you wanted and TV was so defining. Nobody I saw subsequently ever lived up to the way I had imagined them. They were big disappointments.

26. He had that great old Beechcraft - made me an airplane nut for years.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 11:33 AM by old mark
Can't remember much of the show other than the planes, though, but I wouldn't mind seeing an episode just to see how it holds up.

Added: I see he mainly flew one of several Cessnas, but I thought I remembered a Twin Beech.....

It has been a long time...
