Why wasn't Parker Posey cast as Lois Lane?

Bryan Singer makes a sequel to Superman: The Movie, sets it five years in the future, brings Parker Posey on board, but casts a 20 year old to play the Margot Kidder character?

What the @#$% was with that?

Maybe they're pissed she didn't fulfill their marketing plan?
