My new resolution for Colorado (Coloradans please read and evaluate)
I have lived in Colorado all my life. Ever since I became politically aware, I have hated my state. Coming from Colorado Springs, I had an inaccurate impression of our state. I thought everyone was like James Dobson and Joel Hefley. I now realize things are different.

When I was born, almost all of the "immigrants" were from conservative areas of the country, many of whom worked for conservative religious groups. Today, the reverse is true. Progressives are now moving to our state. I was so happy yesterday to see that Bus* only received 50.75% of the vote in our state. I had previously thought it was closer to 75%. I apologize for my ignorance. I now realize from looking at the data that my assumptions about Colorado were distorted by Colorado Springs.

Now we have a great opportunity to elect a Democratic Senator and unseat one or two Repub. Congresspeople. We defeated the partisan redistricting effort. There is hope for Colorado.

I hereby resolve (without vowing) that I will refrain from bad-mouthing Colorado as a whole from this day forward (until further notice). All my bitching will be reserved for "the Springs". My fellow Coloradans, let's all work together to turn our state around.

It's finally cool to be from Colorado!

2. I Try to Never Badmouth Colorado Per Se.....
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 03:01 PM by CO Liberal
...just all the right-wing assholes that have gravitated here. Like the following:

Will Perkins - Colorado Springs car dealer who helped found "Colorado for Family Values" and get Amendment 2 passed to deny equal rights to gays. It was eventually declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.

Ed Bircham - Local office equipment dealer and right-wing looney. Regularly places ads in the local paper spewing his venom. Each ad includes his picture - he's as ugly as his opinions are.

Betty Beedy - Former county commissioner who called welfare mothers "sluts". When she was a guest on "The View", she pointed at Star Jones (who is black) and said "Well, people can tell the difference between Star here and a normal American."

Mary Ann Tebedo - Former legislator who once said that teen pregnancy rates tended to go down after age 25.

Dave Shultheis (sp?) - Current legislator, brought here from California by James Dobson to run for the legislature - this was done because Dobson was tired of being represented by a moderate Republican. Shultheis is responsible for such "wonderful" legislation as the "Dr. Laura Bill", which would have required one year of mandatory family counselling before anyone coulds get a divorce.

Douglas Bruce - Colorado Springs lawyer and slumlord who chanpions tax cuts at all levels of government. Many people think he does that to prevent cities like Colorado Springs and Pueblo from having the money to pursue action against him for building code violations at his many rental properties. A local TV staion came up with a "Landlord's Hall of Shame" a while back - Doug Bruce was #1 on their list.

There are many more assholes around here, but I think you get the idea......

7. I Know
I live in Pueblo West and drive up to the Springs every day. You can practically feel the IQ averages drop with each mile you go north on I-25.

Especially as you pass the sign at the El Paso County line declaring it the "Ronald Reagan Highway".

10. You Can Thank the El Paso County Commissioners For Those Damn Signs
I give them the bird every time I drive by - and I make sure the drivers around me see me doing it.

I do the same thing with the "Focus On The Family" signs near Exit 153.

3. 3 out of 4 voters in my neighborhood are Dem
That's Denver for you, though. As you move south, you get the fundy wingnuts and their focus on the family crap. I think the rest of the state is a mix, with attitudes getting generally more progressive the farther west you go. In my 25 years of living here, I've never seen such a progressive trend in this state.

5. The Springs is hell
I'd move if I were you. Denver is very tolerable for Liberals. Sure there are some Pukes here, but I hardly ever run across them in day to day life. I'm originally from Kansas (Johnson County for those in the know), so I feel for you down in hell. I got out as soon as I had the chance.

6. Move to the 1st District.
With 120 more liberal votes, we'll take that damned seat back from Beauprez.
