I wish Adult Swim would bring Moral Orel back.
Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 11:37 PM by LostInAnomie
That really was one of the best cartoons ever made. It took a childish genre to dark and contemplative places. It had better writing than almost any real show on TV.

This is my favorite clip: http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a2505951d8bc25a011d97d5e3b300a9

It's not a funny clip, but it is amazingly well written.

2. The last few episodes were amazing.
The one's where Clay (the Dad) thinks Bloberta is having an affair, the one where you get to see why Clay and Bloberta married, and the one were you get to see why Clay is so messed up. Amazing writing in all three that probably deserved some kind of award.

It was also a really funny show. Very undeservedly cancelled.

6. why would it get cancelled?
Edited on Thu Jun-04-09 10:45 AM by Blue_Tires
it was dark, uncomfortable and frequently disturbing, but it was still one of the better AS shows...

if i ever lose Tim and Eric, there will be nothing left to watch...

11. I've seen it recently on the cartoon channel, too.
Having not seen all episodes, I don't know if it was a rerun or not.

13. They still show it, but they quit making new ones last year.
They kind of ended it in a way that would make it really hard to bring it back.

10. I like Squidbillies myself.
That show is so fucked up. Unfortunately, it's not on as often any more. Maybe they're making a bunch of changes on Adult Swim?

16. You have to admit it was a pretty fucked up episode.
Not in the artistic David Lynchesque "fucked up" in good sense of the term, just fucked up.

17. The last season was really dark.
That was always the intention of the creator though. He wanted to show that even with some of the worst possible backgrounds it's still possible for something good to exist. Almost all of the characters have something horrible in their background that has twisted them into what they are. Most of them turn to faux-morality and self righteousness as a means to cover their own self-loathing.

If you've watched the whole series you understand it almost has to be that way.

19. yeah
it went some dark places, and I think it handled it quite well. It didn't hit you over the head with stuff, at least in the final season. It was a brilliant portrait of how a well meaning and completely good kid can eventually be twisted by all the bullshit; but it also showed how they can rise above it. I like Orel's expression at the end (before the "future" shot).

And it avoided total cynicism as well. The preacher and his daughter, the nurse and her son, there were little bits of happiness sown in there that complimented the tone well.

18. It ended.
Or at least, IMHO it was a good place to end it. I would have loved to see more of them, no doubt, but I think the culmination of the third season did a good job of wrapping it up, if you had to find a place. I think doing more after that might have been anticlimactic.

Still, I'd definitely watch them if they started making more
