The teachers wanted persuasive.

And they got it.

At the end of his speech Tuesday urging legalization of marijuana, a 17-year-old Peninsula High School student pulled out a joint, lit it and smoked away. Then he ate the remains.

For that he got a quick escort to the school office and then a ride to Remann Hall juvenile jail.

The stunt was celebrated among some of the teen’s peers but was frowned on to say the least by law enforcement officers and district administrators.

“We believe in freedom of speech and encourage it, but illegal activities are absolutely not going to be tolerated in our district,” schools Superintendent Terry Bouck said.

Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said, “If people want that law changed, they need to go about it the right way.”

He did admit, though, that the student’s action will prompt discussion.

“It sure will probably bring a lot of attention to the issue,” Troyer said.

The boy, whom The News Tribune is not identifying because he’s not been charged with a crime, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful drug possession, a misdemeanor.

1. He DID go about it the right way: civil disobedience has always been the best way to get bad laws
changed.

I'm not crazy about people smoking in public, but I appreciate the sentiment. :smoke:

4. Badass would be if he was smoking it in the bathroom or on lunch breaks
I would call this kid a leader.

6. In my view badassness and leadership are often inseperable
People who make such bold stands against power are, in my view, complete and total badasses. He overtly challenged the value of a (stupid) policy.

People who smoke in bathrooms are idiots and deserve the book when it gets thrown at them.

The difference between a badass and an idiot is one of convictions and convicts.

7. A 3.7 GPA too, huh?
Hmm. I saw on a commercial that all marijuana did was make you want to sit on your ass all day and not hang out with your dog.

The story must be mistaken.

9. That's what the commercials say
and I always trust the TV.

After the commercial ends, the girl probably says "I need some more of this shit."

10. I think the commericial is a bit overdone but I have met people like that
I think most people see pot as something to enjoy from time to time like gambling or alcohol but I have met people who are obsessed with smoking pot all the time and hardly do anything else but that. I know that marijuana isn't addictive but I think it is possible to being addicted to the concept of being stoned all the time.
