I don't venture very far from home so most all my photos are creatures/items found in my backyard.

This male Grosbeak was just passing through and stopped by the feeder for a snack.

67. It's a Canadian goose.
This time of year we're up to our pits in them. They nest everywhere and think nothing about wondering out into traffic on busy streets. Fortunately, very few get squished, but they sure tie up traffic.

117. Sorry for the misunderstanding. It's a Chickadee.
I put the camera on a tripod with the lens that I normally use for bugs (180mm macro) and a flash. The camera was placed about 3' from the bird house while I stood back and used an inexpensive (~$20 on ebay)wireless release to trip the shutter when mom came home with dinner.

83. A mama duck and babies stormed my patio like D-Day.
There is a hill between the water and my patio. First, my husband saw the head of the mama duck. Then, sixteen baby ducks ran past her onto the patio. They saw my dog and ran up to the glass. My dog looked at them with confusion. At least, she did not bark at them.

I'm new at the melon growing, lol. I did it last year, but the green beasties got most of them.

Thank goodness this one is up on the porch and I will just watch it and see when it seems it is finished growing.

22. Here is a pic of a typical day off for me.
The one in the front is Jordan and the red dog is Teak. Sadly, that was probably Teakie's last day in the boat. She was not able to get in or out and lost her balance trying to stand up. Almost capsized us.

She was my canoe buddy for many years; now she is 14 and I know she's aware that she's not the same dog.

But Jordan loves to go paddling and has many years ahead of her still.

Yes, we were heading for my favorite "deserted island". I bring my chair, my book,something cold to drink, water and tennis balls for the dog and just hang out for awhile.

30. Yes, it's more bearable then.
But the wind is worse in the winter and spring and makes for difficult paddling.

I do it as a workout anyway, so I usually don't mind, but sometimes I get blown about like a little waterbug on a pool.

I love the ocean. When I was a nanny in Savannah I would drive to the beach almost each weekend even though it was winter.

43. Savannah is so pretty.
I really want to go there to visit, but so far have only driven through. It's right on the route from KW to Charlotte.

I did live in Hilton Head for awhile and that is similar in many ways. The Spanish moss hanging from the trees, the climate. Wonderful area, the lowcountry.

Now 77 goes straight from 95 though.

I never drive anymore, just fly. My truck is too old.

I have stayed in Savannah, but just at a I-95 motel. Funny that you did that drive so many times; we may well have been on the road at the same time.

You will still go to Columbia, but you just skirt the city on the new highway. It's actually quite nice, for a road.

But you know 77, eventually it is just very boring except for the orange barrels they scatter around every few miles or so.

36. Is that an Old Town Canoe? Roto molded seats would usually
mean one of the Discovery models (maybe a 158 or 174 if the floor is as flat as it looks in the photo) but the tan interior looks like Royalex which would mean it's a Tripper. If it is a Tripper, you own just about the best canoe ever built.

112. He came from the shelter as Harry - he became Weird Harold within a day!
Even for a cat, he is weird.

He sings songs to you, he burrows like a ferret, he fetches like a dog, and he drags big, heavy objects around like a toddler (he especially loves to drag things up and down the stairs).

Here he is, seconds after appearing with a toy and demanding attention:

The "stick and feather" toy displayed in front of him is a favorite to drag up and down the stairs, making a "thwackata-thwackata-thwackata" sound as the stick slaps the balusters. Up and down. Over and over. Did I mention we have three staircases? That's a lotta "thwackatas."
