2. Might as well
if you're using IE use the latests version.

You should enable compatibility view when you visit this site using IE8; it improves the display.

4. Certain websites, DU included, look better in compatibility mode
otherwise menus, images, etc, are displaced.

IE-8 will show an icon when it detects that the website might look better in compatibility mode.

You click the icon and everything looks better.

Not like it is unreadable otherwise or anything, everything just fits better somehow.

The compatibility icon will appear right next to the refresh icon.

7. Looks fine with firefox...

I won't do I.E. upgrades anymore. I leave it on my system (an old version) just because I can't ever remember the logins to netflix and audible.

12. I won't do I.E. 8. Not after what my wife went through.
I don't need it THAT bad. I'll ask someone who HAS it.

13. Too bad for the visitors to your website who use IE-8
I guess they'll let you know if they find a problem...

14. Like I said, I'll just ask someone who has it.
I see no reason to add another clunky program that some anti-virus programs see as a virus to my system.

21. You will see an icon that looks like a broken page
right next to the refresh button.

The page will still show up, but some of the boxes may be distorted or out of place.

If you see the broken web page icon, then IE-8 has detected an incompatibility.

Click on the icon and it will enable compatibility mode.

20. Site by site.
If the site is okay in IE-8, the compatibility button doesn't even show up.

5. Not me.
My wife installed it, had to fight with her comp for days, then finally broke down and installed Firefox.

I hate I.E. Nearly every other browser is better.

IE has ALWAYS sucked. Every new version just sucks harder.
