TBS is a longtime offender. They'll run a movie like Hitch at 8:00PM Friday, 8:00PM Saturday, 8:00PM Sunday, and 10:00PM Sunday, and rather than saying "we're cheap-ass bastards who don't want to air anything worthwhile" they say "now you have four chances to watch."

I'm not looking for a lecture on the evils of cable or the virtues of Tivo; I'm just trying to figure out when this started.

And while I'm at it, how many times can a film air before it no longer qualifies as "the broadcast premiere?"

1. They've done it as far back as when I first got cable...
but I didn't get cable until I went off to college.

3. That's a weird reference, considering the news out of Bangkok this week
Nicely done...?

4. I considered the possible tastelessness/syncrhronicity of the reference...
and rejecting it
but I couldn't apply that same "very young" formula to
Hot Dog: The Movie
The Idolmaker
or
CHUD
I believe those four were the Million Nights Quartet of the early years of cable

5. It started probably about 5 years ago
I guess it makes sense. With cable the idea that one network would be worth watching straight through for 18-24 hours goes out the window.
