i have surgery tomorrow
it isn't anything huge but it'll take a few weeks to recover, so after tomorrow it may be awhile before i post again. i hate the idea of being put to sleep with no control over my body, so i'm a bit freaked about that. good vibes would be much appreciated. :grouphug:

Why it made me think of you.. I have no idea.

Hope your surgery goes well and you heal up quick.

22. Dear AVA, I have heard people talk about everything from recipes to a plan for a vacation.
When people are under, more specifically when they start to come out, they say the most innocuous things, usually. If you are worried about someone doing something to you while out, that is rare, despite the stories. I have witnessed it once in all my years. Also, you are not completely without control. Your unconscious mind is still there always, and your subconscious mind is there also while starting to come out from the influence of anesthesia. So don’t be afraid and good luck!

i just don't like the idea of surgery in general, and the idea of being asleep but not dreaming and not remembering an hour of my life is freaky too.

39. You'll be fine
I've been where you are too many times in my life and know exactly what you are going through. The worst part of surgery is usually the waiting beforehand, from my experience. If you are having concerns or fears about going under anathesia, it may help to talk to the anaesthetist (sp) beforehand.

But regardless, my deepest and sincerest thoughts, prayers, positive vibes, good wishes for your surgery and your recovery. Everything will be fine, I'm sure of that

40. Follow the pre-surgery instructions

I've been put out 3 times, twice on a broken wrist, and once for ACL reconstruction.

They will give you something to REALLY chill you out before hand. Really good stuff..LOL. I always got very giggly on it. Usually, you are there a little while before they take you back to the surgery room. When they start to give you the anesthesia, they will have you count down from 99. I tried to make a game of it to see how long I could stay awake and what number I could get down to. I doubt I made it to 85 any time, and when I wake up, hell if I remember. Any time I've woken up from it, it was like no time had passed at all.

Afterward, you may become a little nauseated. But, they can give you some medicine before and after the surgery to quell the nausea. They gave me Zofran. Make sure you don't eat after the recommended time.

Also, make sure you have someone to drive you home, if it is an outpatient surgery.

I hope your surgery goes well. You will do just fine! Just look forward to the crazy stuff they will give you beforehand. Good times.

I suppose the best way to look at it is as a strange new experience, where you can share your story.

58. Dear Ava, I was first put under at age five to have my tonsils
removed. I was told on the gurney that I'd be blowing up a balloon. Well, there was a "balloon" alright, but I remembered very little of it. Once it hit my nose, I was out like a light.

Over the years (67 so far), I have experienced anesthesia on several occasions, and I can tell you that it is far better than experiencing the pain.

My most recent was to have a pacemaker inserted plus a stent and an angioplasty. It was a breeze.

Best of luck, young lady, wake up repaired and hurry back to us with the tale.
