Anyone heard of bao buns?
I've been told of a Chinese dish that I'd really like to try, bau buns. I'd love to find a place that serves them in Seattle but I'm at a loss in finding someone who even knows what they are here. Has anyone heard of this dish?

1. I used to love pork bao in NY years ago. Shouldn't be hard to find in Seattle.

4. Wow, you're right. The only hit I get is Yak's Deli.

Might be worth a trip. It's a simple portable dish. You don't need to be in a sit down restaurant to get one.

8. You want any place that serves a good Cantonese Dim Sum.
"Bao" or "bau" just means bun in Chinese.

Usually what people are referring to is "char siu bao" (there are different spellings) which basically refers to buns that have roast pork in the middle. (see pics at bottom)

Just from a quick search I'm seeing comments to the effect that Richmond may have better dim sum and Chinese food than Seattle, but I don't really know anything about the area to corroborate.

Here are some links rating dim sum places, the place in the first link has what you seek I believe.

Char siu bao (pork buns) look one of two ways, they are either the golden type (baked) or the white type (steamed):

Good luck!

11. Try Uwajimaya in the International District
Just a couple of blocks East if the I.D. station in the Bus Tunnel. Should be in the "ride free area" from downtown. They might also hhave them in one of the bakeries across the street (on the East side) from the Pike Place Market.

They sell pork bao, or at least they did at one time.
