Woman who missed Flight 447 is killed in car crash
OMG this is something out of that movie "Final Destination" where the 4 kids who missed a flight that crashed still had death trying to get them.

Woman who missed Flight 447 is killed in car crash

An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from Bolzano-Bozen province, had been on holiday in Brazil with her husband Kurt and missed Air France Flight 447 after turning up late at Rio de Janeiro airport on May 31.

All 228 people aboard lost their lives after the plane crashed into the Atlantic four hours into its flight to Paris

2. This is one of those litmus tests to see how you view the world.
I would say it proves everything is random and there's no god or fates or destiny. A believer would say God had a reason to save her for a short time, and only She would know why. Some would conclude as you did that she had missed her appointed death and the universe had to catch up to her. A 9-11 Forum dweller would say that the Flight 447 was brought down just to kill her, and that her instincts warned her from getting on the plane, but the conspirators discovered that she had escaped and staged a car accident hit. Probably Poppy Bush was behind it. I'm sure you could research her background and within six degrees discover that she was connected to Kevin Bacon, George Bush, one of the 10,000 people other than Oswald who must have killed Kennedy, and a cab driver who carried Muhammad Atta to the airport on one of his dry runs.

Take your pick, and know thyself.

4. Ok my head just exploded from reading your explanation
But personally I pick C just because I did a kickass analogy with the movie Final Destination.

5. But was her number up with the car crash or was it suppose to be with the plane crash
and was death just finally catching up to her?

9. Probably she was in such shock --survivor guilt--that she was not focused on driving
and thus the car crash.

11. I was thinking of
the Final Destination thing, too. That is spooky. In all likilihood, however, it probably was survivor's guilt interfering with attention like a previous poster said.

12. She was doing something really bad, and she promised to stop,
and so God made her miss the plane, but then she started again, so He had to kill her.

16. Neither weird nor particularly unexpected.
It's just the law of large numbers in action.

Using 2005 US statistics, the odds of dying from a injury in a given year is 1 in 1,681. Automobile accidents is the most probable source of fatal injury at 1 in 6,539 in a given year. Of all fatal injuries the odds are 1 in 20172 for dying on a given month, and 1 in 613,565 for any given day. How much time between missing the fatal flight and being in a fatal accident qualifies as weird? If it's 6 months then the odds is 1 in 3,362. However, even this overstates the odds because this number must be divided by the number of people who it can be construed to have missed this flight due to some contemporaneous circumstance. Also this story could have just as easily been the opposite, which is just as newsworthy. Winning the lottery, house burning down, escaped a second deadly circumstance, or other noteworthy event is a near certainty. The given odds don't even include heart attacks and death from disease in general.

It's easy to associate the particular elements that make it look so unlikely, but this is after the fact, thus technically nothing more than a selection bias. The odds of winning a lottery twice with 1 in 12,000,000 odds is often given as 1 in 144,000,000,000,000. Yet it happens every few months. If 23 people are in the room with you there is a 50% chance two people there will share the same birthday. Concentrating on the odds of singular events is misleading. Thinking that way is like being blindfolded and throwing a dart at a checkerboard with a million squares, then claiming after the fact that the odds of hitting that square was 1 in a million. Though true in some sense, the odds of hitting a square was essentially 100%.
