Is this a form of Insomnia?
When I get tired, I get anxious and I'm too wound up to go to sleep. I get anxiety always when I'm tired.

It was weird, when I got dressed and went out to Walgreens for sleeping pills, I calmed down in the car and I didn't feel as restless anymore.

2. I get anxious when I try to go to sleep.
It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. I worry that I won't be able to go to sleep, which makes me anxious, which makes it hard to fall asleep. I have some pills to help me go to sleep, but it doesn't always work and then makes me groggy in the morning. Wine sometimes helps, but it's a bad habit.

My mind won't shut off normally. I get anxious about all the things I need to do, things going on, my kids, the pets, the world, etc. etc. etc.

Anyhow, you have my sympathy.

3. Wine probably actually makes it worse.
Try a different sleeping pill?

4. They are actually for the anxiety.
But they make you drowsy too.

8. Don’t know how much you paid, but Simply Sleep is Diphenhydramine.
Diphenhydramine is what is in Benadryl and other OTC antihistamines. However, if you switch, be sure to get the stuff without all the bright pink dye, that seems to be a problem for some people.

11. Really, you may need to talk to your MD/practitioner.
It does seem something strange is going on.

12. I was thinking that too.
That's why I was asking if that's insomnia.

14. I am not sure myself.
It fits the definition, but the anxiety component makes it a little different.

13. This happens to me to.
I consider it a form of insomnia, but I've learned to manage it well. Trying to just go to bed never works. Instead I sit back in a chair and pick a subject to concentrate on, rather than simply letting my mind flitter through emotions on a broad range of subjects. The extra mental discipline of actually trying to concentrate tends to break the loop, and thinking becomes a chore. I suspect the same mechanism applied when you had to concentrate on driving. It's important to wait until you are too tired and unable to think before you even consider actually trying to go to sleep. Soon you'll have to drag yourself to bed, probably doze off in the chair first. Actually making the effort to think, rather than letting it happen on it's own, seems to be the trigger that turns it off.

15. Can't say for sure if that'd work for me.
When I was growing up, I used to go to bed at 4am and wake up at 4pm. Probably why I have problems now.

16. Yes, me too.
I remember the first I woke up thinking it was early in the morning, but got weird when it got darker instead of lighter outside. I had many dreams after that about the sun shining in the middle of the night.
