This would be mine.

It's no secret that machines are taking over the world, starting with our menially laborious jobs. We've got cooking robots, vacuuming Roombas, and now there's the Aero Blue Robot—a force-feeding droid.

12. Carl Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic telescope eyepieces.

The set of four was $2400. These are pretty much the highest resolution amatuer astronomical eyepieces available, and they are only barely available. The last run of Zeiss Abbe Orthos was in 1999. When Zeiss made a second run in 2008, I knew it was now or never to acquire a set.

25. Lately this:

Except without the binoviewer. Not only was the set too expensive for pairs, but since the binoviewer increases magnification by about 2.5x, they are too short for it anyway. I have pairs of Televue Ploessls from 11mm to 25mm.

It is a 2000 Discovery 8" f/6 on an EQ platform and a home-made fan. I only got the set about a month ago. I am waiting for a chance to use them in my 12.5" f/5 scope.

28. Very, very nice.
I'm more into photography than astronomy, due to my current location in FL, but I'll be relocating at some point. Years ago I used to do deep sky shots on film - have to relearn all that now that digital SLRs are as good, or better than, film SLRs. The exposure times are significantly different, not to mention the risk of burning out a digital sensor by an extended exposure for deep sky shots. Some time soon I hope to relo somewhere where combining astronomy and photography is a viable option. At which point I'll probably be hunting for some nice eyepieces, among other a lot of other things.

27. OMG
How totally strange. I don't think I wouldn't want a robot that cozy to me!

Many years ago (actually about 15), I was reading one of my Cat Fancy magazine, and they were talking about some cat inspired products that cost a lot of money. My favorite?

An extraordinary coffee table built by Lalique, round, and with a Momma mountain lion with her kits etched around the sides of it. It went for $40,000.

I've since looked for it, but haven't see it, so I guess they must not make them anymore, or custom build them instead Oh well, I certainly can't afford it even now.

Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 09:22 PM by mwooldri

Guildford Spectrum Centre

Indoor pool complex, bowling alley, ice skating rink, basketball stadium, large sports hall, squash courts, fitness suite, athletic stadium, football (soccer to you guys) fields, soft play, and probably more. All under one roof, and run by the local municipality. Greensboro may be in Guilford County, but it doesn't have what Guildford, England has - that. Greensboro IMO needs something like the Guildford Spectrum Centre.

On edit: the OP said "for yourself". Sorry this kind of indulgence would have to be available for all...

In the not category, it would be pretty sweet to buy Saudi Arabia. They seem to control everything, so owning them would have to be worth something. Plus I hear they have a lot of gold plated sub-swag that I assume would come as part of the deal.

more realistically, a fancified car. Once they make one worthy of me.

I don't play worth shit.

It would need its own room in the house, basically taking over 1/3 of the existing floorspace.

Its weight would probably shift the foundations.

I hate Yamaha's, Kawai's and other "reasonably" priced grands. (I also hate Steinways for their tone - too brittle on the top end)

The first guy I met that owned one of these had downgraded (!) from a Wanderlodge motorhome - he said that it met his main criteria very well - the truck part was great, and would tow anything, anywhere, and his wife found the coach kitchen quite nice for baking cookies!
