Some advice for all of the beer drinkers on a budget
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 05:40 PM by sasquatch
I'm a beer snob but don't have the scratch I used to have to buy craft beers that I love. So I went back to the old traditional brands and found them surprisingly tasty with all things considered. For best possible taste I suggest you invest in some pilsner glasses though, which I did years ago before this fiasco the Bush Crime Family brought upon us hit. The brands I find myself preferring as of lately are Pabst Blue Ribbon and Strohs. This message is meant for college aged people that find themselves broke as hell thanks to their parents who designed a world for them in which they would be living as pipers for a few years...you know who you are! Also for people who're in a pinch as well financially but no longer in college.

1. I used to drink Strohs. It's quite good.
Oddly enough, I can't remember the last time I saw it for sale here.

13. I'm trying to find a particular Yuengling,
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 06:29 PM by Xipe Totec
It's a special reserve, but I can't remember the name.

All I remember is that is tasted strongly of cherries.

17. Could you mean their "Bock"?
It's a spring beer, I believe. Beer Advocate has some pretty recent reviews though, so I guess it isn't too late to find it. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/182/47812/?view=beer&sort=latest&start=10

19. Not sure; it might
I will redouble my efforts to contact the person who introduced me to this brew, and take note.

20. Yuengling Premium?
For some reason, it's cheaper than regular Yuengling around here.

23. I'm not sure, really.
I'm going to have to track down the guy who introduced me to this great brew...

It may take me a while because he's a drummer in a traveling rock band.

But I'll find him! :hi:

4. The proper glassware can make a huge difference, yes.
Cans or even bottles can alter taste, so get the beer out and into a proper glass ASAP. And DON'T chill the friggin' thing, whatever you do! (The glass, that is.)

5. I recommend Ommegang Three Philosohers
Exceptional Belgian style Ale from New York.

9.8% Alcohol by volume, so one 25 oz bottle will put you under the table.

6. Trader Joe's Anniversary Ale is a similar bargain.
It's usually about $5.99 for a 750ml bottle, and it's 9% ABV. One will do for an evening. The 2008 is sold-out at most TJ's stores, though, and the 2009 won't be on sale until November or thereabouts.

18. I wasn't referring to her, per say, but while were on the subject
While you're pounding down a case of value sized chardonay why don't you give her a bottle so she can have something better than natty lite.

8. Don't forget Schlitz!
Ever since they went back to the old 1960s formula, Schlitz has become quite the tasty cheap beer!

Although, I'm not sure if you can get it outside of Wisconsin.

9. My G.I. still reacts to the name, Schlitz,
So I don't think I could ever give them a second chance....

10. Back in the day the cheapest beer we could find was Schaefer's
My drinking posse even made up a little chant about it...

To days of old when men were bold
And sex was so much safer,
We didn't a fuck, and saved a buck,
And all we drank was Schaefer's

:toast: :toast: Cheers!

It worked but it was rough for the guy stuck in the other bunk bed!!

21. Amber Bock is OK, Sam Adams makes a good lager. Miller High Life is
a good beer. Look at the "best sold before" date.

At $7.50 a sixer, Schlafly APA is excellent. It has a nice hoppiness, but not so bitter that your face collapses.
They also have a version with lime in it. Never tried it.

22. PBR Been brewed since 1844
Hi,
I occassionaly get some higher end beer, but my staple is good Ol' PBR. I was switching between that and Old Style until Old Style went to "krausening" again and raised the price of a twelver by five bucks. I avoid light beer at all costs, the only thing that does is give me a headache. Also, you know what having sex in a canoe and light beer have in common?

Peace
