So it turns out I have seen almost 2/3 of all Woody Allen movies...
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 12:01 AM by WCGreen
There are so many of his movies that have captured my fancy, made me think about the human condition and laughed, from Guffaw to knowing chuckle...

Woody is probably one of the top ten writers of all time in Hollywood. And he ain't a bad director.

I just watched Hannah and Her Sisters and realized, for the fifth or sixth time, that this is perhaps my most favorite movie.

It's like a group of old friends that assemble just for me, we catch up, listen to some wonderful old music, see Lloyd Nolan and Maureen Sullivan in real roles written for them because you know Woody must loves them, and I think, what a wonderful thing these movies are.

1. That's an impressive record...
I've seen some of them, but I must say most of them were just a bit on the weird side for me.

I do agree about Hannah and Her Sisters, though. That is his most approachable, most main-stream, most relevant movie that he made, for me.

It just feels like a slice of life, with people we know and love. Comfortable, yet illuminating.

And it looks like a real home, not a set at all...

:hi:

2. I recently just saw Shadows and Fog for the first time
and it just completely captivated me so much that I had to watch it a second time as soon as it ended.

I find Woody Allen is either a hit or miss with me. When it hits, it does so completely.

3. "Annie Hall" was pretty darn good, and "Sleeper" was a work of sheer genius...
But most of his stuff really doesn't stand the test of time.

At the end of the day, it turned out that he really wasn't
PRETENDING to be a neuoritic & fearful little shithead,
he really WAS one, and he had been molesting his underaged
adopted step-daughter for YEARS.

At least the one he MARRIED when she turned 18- as if she's the only one.

4. My favorites:
"Annie Hall" 1977

"Crimes and Misdemeanors" 1989

"What's Up, Tiger Lilly?" 1966

Each very different from the other, but I love them all.

tied with his FIRST movie, "What's Up, Tiger Lilly."
I really enjoy silliness, and he does that very well indeed.

8. That was a funny movie...
I really think that Hannah and her Sisters is one of the best since it told a great story with enough humor to make it all worth while.

Another favorite of mine is Radio Days...

9. I love most of his movies.
Too bad he's been out of the spotlight for a while. His latest "Vicky Christina Barcelona" is very good. A very
European style movie.

10. After "Annie Hall", his movies simply became creepy.
Before "Annie Hall", he was silly yet shrewd.

Up to and including "Annie Hall" is when he hit his stride. IMHO, of course.

11. I love "Manhattan." It's beautifully filmed and the
score is great. That along with "Annie Hall" would top my list.
