Update on the baby deer (Photos)
First I want to thank you all for your support and wonderful responses. You are all amazing. This is the follow up to yesterday's post...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x8843594

Thank you Flvegan...I called the number and that person connected me to another number and that person connected me to yet another person. After going through at least 6 -7 people I was given the name and number of a wonderful person who rescues animals in this type of situation. She is a retired nurse who happened to work at the same hospital I did 15 years ago! (I did not know know her then, but seriously, what a small world.) She told me if I find the little one to call her cell and she would be there to get it. I got suited up in a long sleeve sweatshirt and sweatpants in 88 degree humid weather (to avoid ticks) to go on a mission to find that baby. As I walked into the kitchen to leave I looked out the kitchen window to see a small brown spot in my "deer proof" garden. Yep, I walked out to see this little guy curled up. I called and the woman she said would be there within the hour. I sat by the baby until she got there.
When she grabbed that baby it cried like I never heard before and talk about LOUD. She carried him to a cage in her truck that contained yet another orphaned fawn even smaller than this little guy! She is an amazing person and I was very blessed to have met her. We will stay in contact and I will be visiting her "farm" to see this little guy grow up. The animals she rescues eventually will be released into the wild.
Yesterday is one of those days I would soon want to forget because I lost a friend, However, I was able to keep a promise to my friend.
Again, my thanks to you all.

The "spot of brown" in my garden

My new hero...

Oh, and the sound of a fawn "crying"

OK, I am a sentimental fool, but your story, and those pics! made me tear up!

I think that fawn remembered your yard, and came there for safety and comfort...

6. Thank you
I think the fact that we were both retired nurses from the same hospital (and never knew each other) made an interesting twist to this whole debacle. Thank you for your kind words.

I am so glad that you managed to rescue your friend's baby...her trust in you was well placed. And thank you for the pics and for the sound bytes - the latter fascinating and now bookmarked.

Your yard and garden btw look beautiful and well-tended. I wish I were there.

29. I spoke to "Kelly" yesterday
She named her Angel. She is nursing well and has taken to being with the 21 other baby fawns that she rescued! What an amazing person. She is my new hero. We will be going to see her next week. I can't wait.

13. Thanks, mother nature's daughter, for helping
I know I shouldn't anthropomorphize, but occasionally my son and I translate my dog's thoughts to words to amuse eachother. If the baby deer thought in words they might have been,"I don't know where mom went, but I know she likes this place, and that two-legged animal gives her stuff to eat. This cluster of plants has some stuff mom said was good, so I'll sneak through this hole and wait."
I'm at the library w/o earphones, so I'm looking forward to hearing the sound fawn's make.

The kind rescue woman looks like she could be my best friend's sister. My friend is a nurse who lives in Maine. :o :hi:

19. Oh, I'm so glad to hear this.
It's terrible you lost a friend and Bambi lost his (her?) mom, but that's the best possible outcome, and both you and the rescuer have a special, wonderful place reserved in the Summerland for you.

That sound file is amazing. It kind of sounds like a human baby crying! I never knew they could make noises like that.

24. Me neither
That baby cried so loud that the neighbors came out of their homes to see what was going on (and we don't live right on top of of one another.) It freaked me out as I never knew they made any noise at all. I'll never forget it.

32. Thanks for the update!
:hi: We came upon two baby fawns on our property on Friday night! Our dogs were off leash and the ACD (Murphy) chased them for what seemed like a long time, but was only a minute or two. The fawns went deeper into the brush. We should be a lot more careful in June here.

35. They are gorgeous!
Also, the same size as your fawn. Since there were two, they darted in different directions and one came right at us (my husband managed to grab our other dog Cindy) before veering off. He/she had the Neil- O'Donnell- in-Super- Bowl '95 look.(Steelers fan reference). The proverbial "deer in the headlights" look. I felt bad, but fortunately nothing bad happened.
