Any drama/theater people here? I need a one-minute monologue for a girl to perform.
My daughter (age 9 going on 15) inherited the acting chops (definitely from the other side of the family!). She is GOOD -- confident, takes direction, projects, expresses, memorizes lines quickly, etc. etc. I'm not just "proud mom" saying that -- several people have commented, including a couple actors who have worked professionally. We've been urged to have her try out for a childrens' theater group. She needs a one-minute monologue to perform for the audition. I picture her doing something sassy, funny and Veruca Salt-ish, but it could be something else, too.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! :hi:

2. Thanks -- I know, it kind of limits the good stuff if it can't be too bawdy.

4. Heh -- My niece performed in that.
She was "The Angry Vagina" and she kicked ass!

But, she's over 18. :)

Not a great deal of options, but it's a start.

15. Juliet's soliloquy from Act 2 of Romeo And Juliet
It may sound like a corny pick but I think it's something every budding actress should know.

16. The Diary of Anne Frank
Anne:

“…(writing in diary)The air raids are getting worse. They come over day and night. The noise is terrifying. Pim says it should be music to our ears. The more planes, the sooner will come the end of the war. Mrs. Van Daan pretends to be a fatalist. What will be will be. But when the planes come over, who is the most frightened? No one else but Petronella!…Monday, the ninth of November, nineteen forty-two. Wonderful news. Allies have landed in Africa. Pim says we can look for an early finish to the war. Just for fun he asked each of us what was the first thing we wanted to do when we got out of here. Mrs. Van Daan longs to be home with her own things, her needlepoint chairs, the Beckstein piano her father gave her…the best money could buy. Peter would like to go to a movie. Mr. Dussel wants to get back to his dentist’s drill. He’s afraid he is losing his touch. For myself, there are so many things…to ride a bike again…to laugh till my belly aches…to have new clothes from the skin out…to have a hot tub filled to overflowing and wallow in it for hours…to be back in school with my friends.”

18. The "fight them on the beaches" speech is out, right?
Is there anything out of Little Miss Sunshine that would work? I haven't seen it, but maybe there's something in there that would work.

19. Good luck! Seems like you've gotten lots of help. I did a LONG
monologue (I think you'd call it that) when I was around 8 or so - in a play called "Winterthing". I impressed my English teacher (he was in charge of all plays/productions) and the headmaster, mostly because they were amazed that I _ME_ the inattentive one - remembered the entire thing.

The script is in my attic - I'm sure you will find better advice from others... : )
