Songs remade that make you cringe
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 03:36 PM by Symarip
Most covers are usually ok. Covers can help define a band. But sometimes, you hear a remake and silently cry inside. Here are the best of the worst in my head:

No Doubt - It's My Life Thanks for ruining a perfectly good song from childhood
311 - Love Song Way to borify a great song
Anything Reel Big Fish attempts I'd paypal these assholes a dollar to stop playing music
Limp Bizkit - Faith 'nuff said

1. Or how about Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes.
Not only did they do a shitty cover of it, but halfway through there's some fucking robotic voice spelling out Limp Bizkit's name. Devouring and then shitting out a classic song wasn't enough. They had to shit on top of that pile of shit to personalize it. :puke:

They suck out loud. Figures they'd mutilate a great song.

I figured they'd be washing dishes somewhere by now. :puke:

27. What REALLY made me cringe when that cover first came out
was the fact that whenever it came on the radio, they'd always announce it as "Limp Bizkit's new hit single." They never once mentioned that it was a cover. Most of the people of my generation don't even know that it's a cover. :banghead:

3. How about The Ataris (shitty pop-punk/emo band) butchering "The Boys of Summer"?
Not that that song is a personal favorite or anything, but when you make Don Henley seem brilliant by comparison, then something's really wrong...

Or how about Counting Crows (who I actually don't hate) shaming poor Joni Mitchell with their version of "Big Yellow Taxi"?

6. One that comes to mind was Rita Cooledge's unforgivable version of Higher and Higher
Took one of the most exciting and powerful soul songs ever recorded and managed the almost incomprehensible feat of making it boring and lifeless. I'm sure plenty more would come to mind if I thought about it, but this one did immediately for its epic lameness.

25. Oh man, for SOME reason that song was on the rotation for the background music at my work...
... about an hour after a good version of the song. Two versions of the same song in the rotation. One good. One bland and unappealing. Quite bizarre.

There's also a shitty cover of Hard Day's Night in the rotation too, but I don't know the name of the group that does that one.

28. The first disc of 'Garage Inc.' should probably never have been released.
Other than the admittedly ass-kicking Mercyful Fate medley, it's pretty much worthless. The second disc, on the other hand, has some quality material ("The Wait," "Am I Evil?," "So What," etc.).
