Movies that should never have been remade.
My nominee?

The Day the Earth Stood Still.

No matter how much you tweak the script, the storyline just isn't going to resonate today like it did when the original was released.

Also, who the fuck thought Keanu Reaves could EVER match the performance of Michael Rennie?

They should have left a classic alone.

1. The Taking of Pelham 123
I haven't seen the remake yet, but the original is brilliant. There's no way Travolta and Denzel can match Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau

32. I saw it; it was pretty good IMO
Modernized nicely. Different enough so that you can't be sure of more than the general flow of the movie.

10. I hgeard through the rumormill that Bill and Ted is going to be remade
With fucking cell phones. Sometimes a classic doesnt need to be remade. I am however looking forward to seeing Seth Rogan's and Stephen Chow's remake of the Green Hornet

Just off the top of my head:

Psycho
The Vanishing (in particular)
Insomnia

(those last two, especially, were ruined by remakes)

15. Dawn of the Dead.
The whole idea of fast moving zombies is ridiculous. And why fuck with a classic when it was perfect the way it was?

They're threatening to remake "The Warriors" which will also be a travesty.

31. I thought Dawn of the Dead was a good stand alone movie.
If viewed as a separate entity from the original and the whole Romero franchise, it really is a good movie. The opening scene is probably the scariest and most suspenseful 10 minutes of film made in the last 15 years.

19. how much time do you have?
Most of the remakes I have seen the last 10 years have been horrible - there was really no reason to remake them, other than greed and assuming younger people have no tolerance for older and black and white films...

23. "Last House on the Left," and I haven't even seen the remake yet.
The original was one of the most groundbreaking, transgressive horror films ever made - I can only imagine watching it through 1972 eyes - and though I probably will rent the remake at some point, I dread the thought of it being turned into a "Hostel"/"High Tension" mish-mash. :(

Not only was it a horrible idea to remake it, but it took a team of doctoral-level fuck-ups to make a movie as bad as they did.

30. "Jar City"--a movie based on an Icelandic novel that is built around
uniquely Icelandic circumstances (I can't say more without giving the plot away)* is being remade as taking place in Louisiana? :wtf:

What did the producers say? "Let's set this movie in the place that is the least like Iceland in the whole world"?

*By the way, see if you can find Arnaldur Indridason's mystery novel Jar City, which is a fascinating look at Icelandic society. Yes, it has been translated into English, and there's a movie version (in Icelandic with English subtitles), which I saw at a film festival a couple of years ago.
