Meet Charley, the newest member of the Waldorf Cat Haven family.
Charley started coming to us for food a couple of months ago. Our ferals now number three; the other two are Domino, who's been around for years, and a striking brown-orange tabby/tortie with orange feet. She's preggers, god help us.

As soon as the weather turns warm for good, we'll be trapping Charley to take him in to be neutered, then we'll bring him home & turn him loose.

Charley

3. As long as I can keep things feeling easy to him around here,
it shouldn't be too hard. It's just a matter of getting him to walk into the trap. We need to do the same for our other two ferals -- and pray we can catch the female before she gives birth! Thanks for wishing us luck. :hi:

8. I dunno
We have several ferals around our house. We've managed to catch and tame several of them, mostly those which are black and in danger around Halloween. But there were also a few that were injured that we could never catch.

13. It's not easy.
Two and a half years ago we trapped a pregnant feral we named Patches, and then her two kittens, and cared for them for a while & fostered Patches' litter. Last year we trapped a male who had bitten Mrs. V.; we thought he was tame because he'd allowed me to pet him, but he nailed her when she tried. :( We would've TNR'd him, but the health department had to put him down to see if he had rabies (he didn't).

We've wound up trapping raccoons, possums, and one very hungry blue jay. It won't be easy, but we have to try.

As I said, I wish you continued success. It is a wonderful thing you are doing. :)

2. He's a beautiful tabby and he might be tamable.
I had one, who sort of looks like Charley, I called Bruiser, who came around to be fed. We called him that because he looked like a kitty weight lifter, but he had a tiny kittenish meow. My stepdaughter said that we should have named him Mike Tyson. He eventually died but prior to that, as the years went by he got friendlier and tamer.

4. He might be, but . . . noooooooo!
I collect strays, and any cat that I get attached to has to become an indoor cat because I can't stand the thought of it being vulnerable to cars, other critters, and disease. So I hope to control myself & not to try to tame Charley.

Like Bruiser, Charley has a sweet, tiny little voice! I'm sorry you've lost him.

5. Hi Charley
I have a Charlie too. But he's a Brittany and the only cat he likes is his brother Calvin.

6. My Grandma always fed the feral cats
It's one of my fondest memories of her. Every summer when we'd go to visit, I'd always try to pet them but never could. Bless you for taking care of the little critters. Charley is sweet looking. Gosh I just love all cats....

14. My grandma did too.
She's in an assisted living facility now, but she's doing well. I hope she doesn't miss the critters.

7. I used to feed ferals at one of my apartments in Salt Lake
It was the only thing I liked about living in that place. We had a fenced in porch in the back and there would always be a kitty looking in at the window when I got up each day. My cat would "play" with them on the inside of the sliding glass door. She missed that when we moved out.

9. Cute Guy!
As you know, I also have six indoor-only cats, and I know the conflict you're facing in trying to tame him vs letting him remain feral, so I'll take the neutral ground and wish Charley many happy, safe years with you.

22. He looks like Rudolph, a feral male who's slowly beginning to
trust us... we caught his sister a year ago, had her fixed, and now she's part of our family, sorta - she prefers to sleep in the garage (with her own private kitty door) and doesn't get along too well with our three other cats.

Anyway, Rudolph is gorgeous just like Charley and I'm just absolutely wracked with guilt because my husband and I are probably going to move soon and I don't know how dependent he is on us. Thing is, though, my neighbor about 1/2 block away has 16 cats, and he goes over there, too, for food and to hang out (he can't hang out here b/c my Tommycat is too territorial, even though he was snipped 5 years ago), so I think Rudolph will be fine.

But I feed all the other critters here, esp. lots of birds, and I'm just worried worried worried about what'll happen when we leave. I know they'll survive, they did just fine (probably much better) before a house was built in these woods, but still. Once I start caring for something, it is soooo hard to let go.

24. We must've been each other in a former life.
I know exactly how you feel. You just have to rely on what you know -- that the animals will be fine -- rather than what you feel.

If it helps, imagine the animals getting mad at you! Helps me sometimes.

26. I just feel better knowing that there are other kindhearted
people out there who respect ALL life! We might be moving to yet another mountaintop hideaway, so I console myself that I'll be able to adopt a new set of critters to care for! Yay!

But I agree, I do *know* that they will be OK (and am thankful for my neighbor, who's just as much of a softie as we seem to be).

27. I feed feral cats, too.
I've adopted three of them so far. One is so wild, I can only pet him twice. Then, the hissing starts. But he is much improved, and he's learning what "playing" is. By the way, it looks like you've been feeding Charley VERY well! He's a cutie.
